Tonight was it. The end. The finale. Fin.
We have to wait 179 days to watch another game that means something. But at least the Sox went out on a high note, beating the Indians 9-0.
Gavin Floyd was consistent. And he pitched wonderfully. He lasted seven innings, giving up no runs on three hits with two walks. Brian Omogrosso pitched 0.2 innings, giving up two hits, while Leyson Septimo finished the eighth perfectly. Septimo stayed on for the ninth, and he pitched perfectly.
The offense had themselves a great night as well. Dan “Mr. 162″ Johnson went 3-for-5 with two two-run home runs, a solo home run, and three runs scored. And five RBI. This is his first three homer game. Dayan Viciedo had a great night too. He went 3-for-4 with four runs scored, an RBI, and a walk. Hector Gimenez went 3-for-5 with an RBI. Paul Konerko hit another homer tonight, a two-run shot. He went 1-for-4 with two RBI and a walk.
Much to the chagrin of the majority of my Twitter timeline, AJ Pierzynski did not play tonight. So his final at-bat was in Monday night’s win. For the record, it was a walk in the ninth inning, and he scored on Dayan Viciedo’s grand slam.
This is it, Sox fans. It’s been an interesting season, and it’s been a season that no one expected. While the team fell short of the playoffs, they finished much higher than anyone thought they would. Be proud of this team, Sox fans. They are better than expected.
Stick around in the offseason for breaking Sox news. See you in the spring!
