Cubs live game thread: Thanks for leaving the mascot at home, Reds

So this weekend I was at a soccer tournament out of town. As a result, I saw ZERO Cubs games. And let me tell you, it was refreshing. And yes, I know they made mincemeat out of the Cardinals, which I’m sure was enjoyable. But somewhere in those two games, I’m certain that some Cub did something that would have made me all mad & stabby, and that would have ruined my weekend.

And while we're at it, what the hell is this thing?

And while we’re at it, what the hell is this thing?

My point is that it’s nice to take a break from the Cubs every once in a while. Really. It’s also great to come back from said break and jump back into the fray. Am I making myself clear here, people? Stop lurking and get back to hanging out with us. I’m tired of spending my entire day talking to Doc.

All of that said, the Cubs “welcome” the Reds to Wrigley Field tonight. I know that a bunch of you have no problem with the Reds, but I can’t stand ‘em. Can’t stand their “no one does Opening Day like WE do Opening Day” fans, can’t stand Dusty (I know, I know, he’s a great guy. Mike Quade was also a great guy, yet I don’t want to see him on my television set ever again), can’t stand most of their players. In fact, I’m quite gleeful whenever they lose. I’m hoping to be gleeful tonight.

Travis Wood (7-8, 3.04) takes the mound tonight for the North Siders. For the Skyline Chili people, it’ll be Mat Latos and his 11-3 record. Also, I’m not really sure what’s going on with the name “Mat.” I can’t decide if his parents gave him this name on purpose of if he changed it when he was like 15 because he thought it was cool, kind of like how I wanted to change “Julie” to “Juli” with a heart over the “i.” Either way, it looks pretty stupid. I told you I had nothing nice to say about the Reds.

Tonight’s lineup:

DeJesus
Lake
Rizzo
Castillo
Schierholtz
Castro
Murphy
Barney
Wood

First pitch is at 7:05 pm CT on CSN+.

Maybe Lato’s parents forgot the second “T” when they filled out the birth certificate?

Maybe he’s secretly a Japanese player named Tatami Latosu and it got lost in translation.

I’ve always wondered why there are two “N’s” in my name.

I think the Reds’ mascot is Mr. Met’s crazy Italian (guessing that based off the mustache) uncle.

Seriously people, it’s torture to talk to me day in and day out…so start posting some comments so Julie doesn’t lose her sanity.

And I’m running out of stupid things to say. OOH look a rainbow.

Well, we could discuss the Bud Billken parade. It fascinates me …

        1. Doc Blume says:

As a kid, I hated the Bud Billiken parade…it always signaled the end of the summer and the start of the school year. Boooooo.

Sorry for my absence. I have been dealing with medical issues and am currently in week 2 of a ketamine infusion protocol for neuropathic pain. Best I can come up with is hope that Castro can finish strong and that the Yankees let us raid whatever it is they call a development system in exchange for Castro.

The mascot would fit into a Mario Brothers game…

      No good enough.

The good thing about moving to Ohio is that I can see the Cubs on TV anytime they play the Reds. The bad thing about moving to Ohio is that I have to listen to Jeff Brantley and Marty Brennaman. And Skyline Chili is just disgusting!

    1. juliedicaro says:

      UGH. The Brennemans. Gross.

    2. Doc Blume says:

      SEC!!!!

    1. Doc Blume says:

      No.

      BOOOO!!!!

  7. juliedicaro says:

Cubs have been shut out at home three times in a row for the first time since 1924. That pretty much says it all.

    1. Doc Blume says:

Who here fooled themselves into thinking this team would actually play better once half the roster was traded away?
