The Chicago Cubs will play the third of four games in their series against the Arizona Diamondbacks tonight in Phoenix. While the Cubs try to secure at least a split of the series tonight, their lineup will be bolstered by the return of center fielder David DeJesus, who has been on the disabled list since June 15. With the return of DeJesus, we also get to see the departure of Dave Sappelt, who returns to Iowa.
Another development tonight is that Junior Lake is starting in left field in place of Alfonso “Definitely Not Being Traded Just A Scheduled Day Off” Soriano. The DeJesus/Lake tandem will be playing behind Jeff Samardzija tonight. The Shark pitched well his last time out, allowing one run in 7.1 innings in Colorado. I did the game thread that night, and guessed that he’d have a horrible game. So I’ll assume he’s going to be terrible tonight in hopes that he’ll pitch well.
The Diamondbacks counter with Ian Kennedy, who is 3-7 with a 5.29 ERA so far this season. One of those three wins was against the Cubs earlier this season, when he allowed four runs in seven innings. His career numbers against the Cubs are 3-2, 6.65 in 43.1 innings.
Lineup after the jump.
Game time is 8:40 Central and will be broadcast on CSN+.
