The first two months of the 2013 season, Edwin Jackson was known as the $52 million dollar bust. Then June and July happened. In his last 11 starts, he’s 6-3 with a 3.13 ERA. In an especially good July, he went 3-1 with a 1.83 ERA. The struggling Phillies might be his next victim. While we’ve been languishing over a 1-7 home stand, the Phillies have lost 13 of their last 14 games.
Starting for the Phillies is Kyle Kendrick (9-8, 4.29). His last start was against the Giants, whose woeful offense managed eight hits and seven runs in two innings against Kendrick. Hopefully the Cubs can do more of the same, but don’t hold your breath. The Cubs are now hitting .226 with runners in scoring position, so I guess we’ll have to hope for some Anthony Rizzo and Junior Lake home runs.
