Cubs Game Thread: Edwin Jackson time

The first two months of the 2013 season, Edwin Jackson was known as the $52 million dollar bust. Then June and July happened. In his last 11 starts, he’s 6-3 with a 3.13 ERA. In an especially good July, he went 3-1 with a 1.83 ERA. The struggling Phillies might be his next victim. While we’ve been languishing over a 1-7 home stand, the Phillies have lost 13 of their last 14 games. bell

Starting for the Phillies is Kyle Kendrick (9-8, 4.29). His last start was against the Giants, whose woeful offense managed eight hits and seven runs in two innings against Kendrick. Hopefully the Cubs can do more of the same, but don’t hold your breath. The Cubs are now hitting .226 with runners in scoring position, so I guess we’ll have to hope for some Anthony Rizzo and Junior Lake home runs.

Tonight’s lineup:

DeJesus CF
Lake LF
Rizzo 1B
Schierholtz RF
Castro SS
Castillo C
Barney 2B
Murphy 3B
E. Jackson P

Game time is 6:05 Central and the TV broadcast is on CSN. Let’s go team!

    Hey, no way. Cubs scored!

So, uh, it was 5-2 when I left. 7-5 when I got back. Don’t tell me what happened.

Just over a week ago, I was commenting on Usenet how the Cubs were in a better spot than the Sox. Since then they have gone 1-8. They couldn’t score over the weekend, then score 8 runs Tuesday and lose. They didn’t trade away that much talent before the deadline, so why the heck are they free-falling now?
