In case you missed the news last week, DJ Kitty is now an official mascot of the Rays. I’m not 100% on board with this move, but I can tell you that cat was a hit at Fan Fest.
As you may have guessed from the above photo, my friend Sarah loves him.
Last month, DJ Kitty made a guest appearance on a YouTube channel. Too bad he’s referred to as “DJ Cat” in the YouTube video description.
I was one of about 25,000 people who spent some time at Fan Fest on Saturday. I’ll be uploading more pictures when my laptop stops being a jerk. The good news is I was able to get some of my shots over to Rays Index. You can check out a slideshow here.
Now, on to some less light-hearted news. Rays President Matt Silverman spoke to my friends over at Happy Hour with JP Peterson on 1010 AM yesterday. You can catch the full interview here.
Cork Gaines of Rays Index heard the interview and had this to say:
During the discussion, Silverman said the Rays are “certainly spending an uncomfortable amount of money.” That’s right, $64.3 million is “uncomfortable.” What do you think he would call $150 million? Irritable Bowel Syndrome?
JP responded that we, as fans, need to make that number feel a little more comfortable.
Silverman also said they feel like they’re heading in the right direction and he’s “heartened” by the progress.
I wish the Rays had more to spend, but thankfully, guys like Joe Maddon and Carlos Pena realize that this game can be about more than money.
During the interview, JP and Silverman talk about Maddon’s efforts to support his hometown of Hazleton, PA, the camaraderie among the team, and of course, they touch on the stadium saga.
