Well, it’s finally August. Which means the start of football is among us. Many schools started camp this week and Thursday, USA Today released their annual coaches poll.
I am not the type of person who gets real excited when preseason polls come out due to the fact that they are completely pointless. BUT it does mark that one step closer to actual football being played.
Every year there are also some teams that are on the poll and just seeing them and where they landed makes you scratch your head.
Here is your first poll, in all it’s glory:
|RANK||TEAM||2012 RECORD||POINTS||PREVIOUS RANK|
|2||Ohio St. (3)||12-0||1427||NR|
|6||Texas A&M (1)||11-2||1215||5|
First thing right off the bat that I noticed was that they have LSU listed as the 6th best SEC team. Oh. I really don’t see them being 6th best by the time the season gets into swing, but whatever. I’m not a coach so I don’t get to vote for this one.
Another thing that jumped off the page at me and made me giggle was seing USC at No. 24. Whhhaatttt? I guess losing a stud QB,
getting beatdown losing to Georgia Tech in the Sun Bowl and going 7-6 on a season puts you in the Top 25. My bad. Lane Kiffin is calling the plays again this year, so I if they finish the season inside the Top 25, I’ll be shocked.
You never know though. College football has been one unpredictable beast over the last couple seasons and sometimes weirder things have happened. Maybe before season starts someone can also explain to me why Nebraska and Michigan are both in the Top 20?!?! Top 25, probably. Sigh.
But I guess that’s the fun of these things. We get to pick them apart and judge them like we know more than the coaches do.
