Gamecock Men’s Hoops: Still A Broken Record

The silver lining, I suppose.

What’s left to say, really?

The Gamecocks dropped another game, this time a 76-65 decision against Arkansas.

The Razorbacks simply outplayed South Carolina for most of the afternoon, but the Cocks did put together an 11-0 run late in the game. It was too little, too late, though, and USC is now 1-9 in SEC play (and 9-15 overall).

The Hogs are undefeated (now 17-0) at home this season, so obviously Carolina would have had to pull off some kind of miracle game to win. When the teams were tied at 27 with four minutes left in the first half, I thought that maybe, just maybe, they could make magic happen. Not so much. Arkansas went on an 11-0 run to end the half. They led for the entire second half.

Damontre Harris led the Gamecocks with 12 points. BJ Young led the Razorbacks with 27. This was the fifth straight loss for South Carolina, they’re still winless on the road in the SEC, and this is the first time they’ve been 1-9 in conference play since the 1999-2000 season.

I don’t have any deep analysis to offer you. This is not a good basketball team. Fans barely care. We’re basically a freebie win for other schools. Barring some sort of absolutely stunning performances, USC will finish below .500 for the third straight year. If the Cocks somehow manage to win the remaining six games on the schedule, they’ll finish at .500. Their recent showings in the SEC Tournament have been pitiful, so the chances they make it into any other postseason play are slim to none, emphasis on the none.

The next game is against Georgia on Wednesday. Tip off is set for 7 ET at the Colonial Life Arena.
