Cleveland Browns make final roster cuts in true Browns fashion

Ladies and gentlemen, the Cleveland Browns have made their final roster cuts to get to the 53 man roster. And what’s a sports season in Cleveland if the Browns (or Indians, or Cavs for that matter) don’t do something that makes the fans go, “They did WHAT?” Yea, it wouldn’t be Cleveland if that didn’t happen.

Let’s backtrack for a second. The preseason has come to a close, and the Browns went 3-1, which sounds good on paper, but they didn’t always look super sharp (see the epic preseason game #3 loss). But they made a huge comeback in preseason game #4 which was really great for the 2nd and 3rd string players.

If you're confused by some of the cuts the Browns made this weekend, this is not uncommon. Welcome to Cleveland where things don't make sense.

In that game our place kickers were unable to play both with injuries, so our punter Spencer Lanning had to step up. Which he did. And he was kind of impressive, especially when he made a 40-yard field goal. Cool right?

Fast forward to Saturday. The Browns have cut two kickers, Shayne Graham and Brandon Bogotay. Oh, fun fact about that… those were out ONLY place kickers, and now we have none. Yes that’s right. We open the season against the Miami Dolphins exactly ONE WEEK from today and we have no kickers on the roster. Smart right? No? Well what would Cleveland be without silly (for lack of a nicer term) things like this to keep us on our toes. Seriously. It’s going to be one heckofa week in Browns town.

Also cut were two local favorites RB Jamaine Cook (Midpark HS) and LB Justin Staples (St. Edward HS), and Tori Gurley whose name was just so fun to say. Also draft picks DB Jamoris Slaughter and WR David Nelson will be looking for a new team to call home, as will 7 other Browns players.
