Choose my postseason team AND help fight pediatric cancer: That’s win-win

Meet Donna.

Meet Donna.

So, I’m a blogger. Specifically, I’m a Cubs blogger. And except for a few golden years making the playoffs in the 2000s, we’re generally out of the post-season “race” by mid-May. As you guys know, we’ve done a variety of things in the past to give us someone to cheer for in the past. Generally, our postseason team has been eliminated immediately. This is the curse of having Cubs fans on your side.

I’m also one of the Community Manager for ChicagoNow, which how I met the amazing Sheila Quirke and learned about her amazing daughter, Donna, who died of pediatric cancer at the age of four. Through Sheila’s blog, Mary Tyler Mom, and her amazing series of stories from the parents of pediatric cancer patients, I’ve learned, in excruciating detail , what a cruel disease cancer is, especially when it sets its sights on children. We should all be thankful for organizations like St. Baldrick’s, which raises funds to fight pediatric cancer. Please take a few minutes to read about Donna.

So this baseball post-season, my October fandom is up for grabs. All you have to do is make a donation to St. Baldrick’s below, and choose “List my name as entered below.” Then you can add your name and what team you want me to cheer for. Whichever team has the most votes once the post-season starts at 8 pm ET on Wednesday, October 2, will be the team I cheer for, and blog about, during the postseason. All it costs you is $5 per vote. I’ll announce the “winning” team right before tomorrow night’s AL Wild Card game.

Please help us raise awareness and collect donations by sharing this fundraiser around. We only have 48-hours until it ends, so anything you can do to help is much appreciated.

It says DONATE AND VOTE HERE in big letters?

      1. juliedicaro says:

See, you have to put the name of the team in with your name when you donate. It’s . . nevermind, I’ll just put you down for the Pirates. LOL Thanks for donating!

          Oh…I see. My bad.

Oops I did the same thing. Please put me down for the A’s

$25 says the Cardinals need a new fan. :)

For some reason, I’m really excited about the playoffs this year. Maybe it’s because the Pirates, Indians and A’s are all in it…maybe it’s because the Yankees aren’t…maybe it’s because I’ve watch so much crappy baseball this year that I’m glad I can actually see some good baseball now. I don’t know.

Ken Rosenthal is reporting that AJ Hinch is on the list of candidates for manager.

I puked on my desk when I heard this. I personally believe he would be the worst Cubs manager in my lifetime…worse than Jim Riggleman.

I can’t imagine they’d go less-than-huge this time. I don’t think they’re bringing in another unknown name. Just can’t see it. The fans will go ballistic and, no matter what Theo says, Ricketts has to have SOME say in this.

      1. Doc Blume says:

Honestly, nothing that Ricketts has done in the past makes me think he’s going to have any influence in this big of a baseball decision.

But, I do believe you are right…Theo wants a big name with proven success. That name is not AJ Hinch. In fact, I believe if the Cubs hire AJ Hinch, Jed Hoyer will be fired within 2 years.

Jeez, you guys, mention pediatric cancer and the whole site clears out.

It’s the post-firing hangover. Dale and Deer came over last night and we (minus me) got pretty deep into the Miller Lites. Rob is still cycling between passed out and puking in the back yard. Dale’s on the couch trying to figure out how he is going to break the news to his family. I think Rob might have helped my neighbor’s cat perform Sati, but that smell really could be hundreds of different things. I’ve been up since 7am yesterday, but I’m not closing my eyes until those two are at least a mile away from my house.

Done, now where do we enter your name at? I am clueless! LOL

  10. Tina Ketchum says:

I don’t think I did that right! LOL, So here is my team for you:
Go Cardinals! In honor and Memory Of Donna
