Brandon Phillips finally wore down whoever votes for Rawlings Gold Glove winners with his incessant whining. He won a Gold Glove last night and Darwin Barney did not. I think @NotTomRicketts accurately summed up my reaction:
So, here we are, with a non-Gold Glove second baseman that couldn’t hit the broad side of a barn. I wonder if Javy Baez can play 2nd base . . . . ?
There were a lot of swirling “media” reports (a lot of what I’m generously calling “media” here “reports” from their mothers’ basements, unlike me, who “reports” from my couch) yesterday that the Cubs had reduced the number of candidates for the managerial position to two. Not so, says Dave Kaplan, who reports that 2nd interviews are an on-going process. Over at The Loxas Factor, Tom Loxas reports that the Cubs haven’t even requested permission to speak with Brad Ausmus (yes, his name is finally in the mix) or Torey Luvollo, which is understandable, considering he has to finish his job making Cardinals Nation cry into their terrible pizza.
Speaking of Cardinals Nation, make sure you’re following @BestFansStLouis on Twitter. You don’t want to miss gems like these:
Or, of course, this:
And finally, this:
Okay, that last one actually made me kinda sad. But not SO sad that I won’t share this hilarious audio of Cardinals announcers making fun of the Red Sox for holding Wong on 1st base.
We continue our vigil for a new Cubs manager, and we’ll let you know when/if we hear anything. In the meantime, head on over to LOHO’s Facebook page and give us a “like.” I post a lot of stuff over there that doesn’t make it over here. Oh, and GO SOX!
