Chicago Cubs live game thread: A Fonzie-less era begins

Tonight the Chicago Cubs will take field in San Francisco, and, for the first time in a really long time, Alfonso Soriano won’t be on the roster. Soriano was in the starting lineup tonight in Tampa Bay. To replace him, the Cubs have called up reliever Eduardo Sanchez from AAA Iowa.

A new chapter of Chicago Cubs baseball begins.

image-junior-lake-anthony-rizzoAfter a disappointing trade deadline last season, Cubs fans have certainly got their money’s worth this year. And it’s not over yet. The Cubs will now turn their attention moving players like Nate Schierholtz, who is said to top the Pirate’s wish list, and Kevin Gregg. If anyone still wants him, that is. James Russell has also drawn inquiries from several teams.

In minor news, the Giants have acquired pitcher Guillermo Moscoso from the Cubs for a PTBNL or cash. Frankly, I forgot he was even in the system, as I never heard anything about him. So . . . yeah.

The Cubs head into Candle whatever the Giants’ ball park is called these days tonight. I think it’s named after a phone company or something. AT&T? I think so. Anyway, Edwin Jackson (6-11, 5.03) will be on the mound for the Cubs, and if you can’t remember him winning 6 games, you’re not alone. His worth opponent will be Matt Cain (6-6, 5.00).

The lineup tonight looks like this:

DeJesus
Lake  (LF)
Rizzo
Schierholtz
Castro
Valbuena
Barney
Castillo
Jackson

First pitch is at 9:15 pm CT on WGN.

Missing Fonzie already. He didnt fair well in his Yankee debut but he did have an RBI. No score at AT&T Park (not to be confused with AT&T Stadium) which up until yesterday was Dallas Stadium.
    Bottom of 3rd.

Zzzzzzzzz. Now that Fonzie and Garza are gone, we’re back to watching this boring team with no trade rumors to distract us.

Well, the Cubs are 4-4 since All Star break.
For some reason I feel they are better than that.
Of course with our large bite out of our homerun production it could get worse.
    Let’s hope not.
    And I MEAN hope.
    Go Cubs!

    1. Doc Blume says:

The Cubs are actually playing about .500 baseball since the middle of May.
