We’ve endured an All Star Break that seemed like an eternity (four whole days!), and tonight, we’ll be rewarded with real Major League Baseball. Most of the news we’ve received regarding the Chicago Cubs over the last four days has been Matt Garza trade rumors, so it will be nice to have some actual on-field activity to follow. If you’re interested in the ongoing Garza saga, check in at MLBTR every five minutes or as necessary.
The other news we received this week is that we’ll have a new face on the team as Junior Lake becomes an official Cub tonight. Young Junior will be making his debut as the starting center fielder. It could make for a fun night in the expansive Coors Field outfield, as Junior is a converted infielder who hasn’t played a lot of center field.
Tonight’s starter for the Rockies is Jorge De La Rosa (9-5, 3.21). De La Rosa is a lefty who has dominated the Cubs in his career. He’s 4-0 with a 2.05 ERA and 1.37 WHIP in 30.2 career innings against our beloved North Siders. When you consider that and his opponent, it could make for a looooooong night. Starting for the Cubs is Jeff Samardzija (5-9, 4.06). You may remember that in his last start, Jeff allowed four home runs to the Angels in 4.2 innings. Jeff has never started a game at Coors, but in three career appearances, he’s allowed only two runs in 7 IP. Maybe my fears are unfounded.
Lineup after the jump.
Game time is 7:40 Central and you’ll be able to watch on WGN. Let’s go team!
