Look, I realize that this season isn’t all that much fun. I know that it feels like the last 3-4 years have been one, big, fat, losing season, with nothing to distinguish one from another but the hapless manager and the terrible closers. BUT YOU GUYS ARE DOING IT WRONG.
You were supposed to NOT be into the Cubs way back in April and May when all the rental players were on the field. Who cares what Scott Feldman and Carlos Marmol and Ian Stewart could do?
But now that the Cubs are slowly bring up promising and semi-promising young players from the minors, you SHOULD be into the Cubs. Sure, they’re still losing games, but at least we get to see the likes of Junior Lake, Donnie Murphy, and Pedro Strop show us what they can do. And, for the ladies (and 10% of men), Ryan Sweeney and Jake Arrieta are going to be back at Wrigley at some point in the near future.
And, I mean, last night’s game was kinda fun. Sure, Jackson did that thing where he gives up a ton of runs, but the Cubs ALMOST came back. And I ALMOST saw moobs because of it. This is compelling stuff, people.
So quit not being into the Cubs and start being into the Cubs. I don’t write this crap every single day for my health, you know.
Tonight Travis Wood (7-8, 3.05) will take on Cole Hamels (4-13, 3.87) in Philly, and that’s kind of an interesting match up. Clearly, shaving his beard for the All-Star Game was the worst decision Travis Wood has ever made, and it’s always funny to watch Cole Hamels trying to fanagle his Ichabod Crane body around the mound. Not only that, the Cubs are actually closer to the second wild card spot than the Nationals are to catching the Braves. That’s something, right? I declare that to be something.
So quit moping around about how terrible this team is, put on you grown-up pants, and let’s get back into this team. After all,. you don’t want people comparing you to a White Sox fan, do you? Oh yeah, I went there.
First pitch is at 6:05 pm CT on (get ready for it) . . . WCIU!
