Never pitch after you’ve hit yourself in the face with a bunt.
Really, you end up getting no run support and giving up four runs even though you strike out seven people.
Actually, Brian Matusz didn’t pitch too badly – up until there were two outs in the sixth inning, the only blemish on his day was a homer from catcher Brian McCann in the first. The wheels fell off after Matusz was one out away from a quality start – three runs scored, and with the Orioles only scoring their two runs on Braves errors and not actually off Tommy Hanson, the game ended like this.
The Orioles did walk seven times, but when you’re not turning those walks into runs…it’s a problem. It’d be nice to see the team turn up the speed on the treadmill. (See what I did there? …eh, I’ve been awake for nineteen hours now. Don’t judge me!)
Let’s just mulligan this tomorrow. Everyone go tour the Coke factory and get some sleep and we’ll give it a better go next time around.
