This is Buck Britton. He’s Zach Britton’s brother. I saw him play tonight in Frederick (and took that picture) whilst his kid brother was on the mound for the big club.
Zach’s record fell to 5-2 tonight after he gave up three runs in the second – all he gave up – and the offense couldn’t pick him up. The Orioles put on a few – two, to be exact. One came in the sixth and one arrived way too late in the ninth, after the Rays had padded their lead with three more runs in the eighth and ninth. The final was a 6-2 score in favor of the visitors.
Shields basically shut the Orioles down, but the fact that the offense is still refusing to show up is really alarming. Tonight in Frederick, offense showed up – late, but it still showed up (they tied the game 1-1 in the eighth and walked off in the ninth). The big club needs to duplicate that, seriously. They’ve been too little too late in a lot of these recent games – often, just plain too little – and it’s making them look just plain mediocre.
Obviously, they need to step it up if the single-A club can do that clutch offense thing better than they can.
