Cards Win In Walk-Off Fashion

The bases were loaded in the ninth and Lance Berkman was up.

It was one of those moments you are glad Berkman has the Birds on the Bat on his jersey now!

Berkman hit a single to center allowing the winning run to score and give the Cards a 2-1 victory over the Phillies. The victory means the Cards were able to sweep this two game set over the Phils.

LB was mobbed by his teammates after the hit. Considering how this season has gone so far, it was awesome to see the team celebrate a walk-off! This was only Berkman’s third walk-off hit in his career. That seems pretty unreal, right? After all the terror he unleashed in Houston!

Berkman also brought in the other run earlier in the game.

Berkman walked with one out in the fourth and scored on a close play at the plate on a single by Yadi. Third base coach Jose Oquendo was aggressive and sent him home on Molina’s single to shallow left, and Berkman’s hook slide barely eluded catcher Dane Sardinha’s tag after an off-line throw from John Mayberry Jr.

Repeated replays showed that Berkman was stealth in tagging home and avoiding a tag from Sardinha.

Needless to say, Berkman’s heroics make the LB Fan Club happy. We are really hoping this brings in a person who has been hesitant to join the club … Ann!

Speaking of Yadi, he had an excellent game. Yadi was 3 for 4 with an RBI. He hit his 10th double of the season. His performance seemed ignited by that young boy in the dugout with him.

According to the Fox Sports Midwest broadcast, the young boy has a medical condition and wrote Yadier. Being the classy guy he is, Yadi flew the boy and his family to St. Louis from Puerto Rico for the game. Yadi was great with the kid who had a Cards hat on and one of those hoodies the team has been wearing. Yadi could be seen talking to him the entire game, pointing to him after he hit his double and bringing him onto the field to celebrate LB’s walk-off!

I promise to link any more information about the young boy I can find!

Jaime Garcia had an excellent pitching performance Tuesday night. Going eight innings, Jaime allowed five hits, one run, one walk and five strike outs. But, he didn’t get the victory. You see, Tyler Greene was brought in during the eighth inning. Not even my reverse psychology attempts could help Tyler though. Tyler dropped an easy in the eighth making it easy for the Phillies Jimmy Rollins’ to jog in.

Greene was brought in as a defensive replacement for Allen Craig.

… Yeah… I don’t get it either. Why do you have Craig playing second in the first place? And then Greene a defensive upgrade? Ehh.

I know the Tyler Greene Fan Club doesn’t wanna hear it, but Greene is not what one would call good at baseball. Don’t you know Tyler wants to be a part of the LB Fan Club!

Tony LaRussa said this in the post game interview:

“If that game gets away from you, it’s pretty horrible,” said La Russa. “Tyler wants it so bad he just gets in the way of himself. I wish he would just relax a little bit and let his ability flow. Nobody feels worse than he does although he doesn’t feel as bad now because we won.”

Fernando Salas pitched the ninth and got the victory, his second of the season.

Check this out! Tony had words for Reds broadcaster Marty Brennaman. He nicely told him to shut his stup … mouth!

Oh, and here is an interesting read regarding TLR’s shingles. Sounds like he’s getting better!

Albert Pujols has gone 22 games without a homer. If the Cards weren’t winning, this might be a bigger story.

And, don’t forget to check out the Aerys Sports Philadelphia Phillies site View from Section 116.

  1. Ann says:

Tyler Greene made me shout incredibly angry things at the ballpark last night. Very angry things that sounded odd I’m sure as I bit my tongue for the profanities wanting to come out of my mouth. Ugh. I might have cried if that had cost the game. For realsies.

    For realsies in deed!

BTW… in regards to LB’s defense… how can you be a fan of this!! http://www.dlcache.indiatimes.com/imageserve/048zdWs1Hq8pp/x160.jpg
