Since we’re on a sad, terrible off-day, I thought I’d take the opportunity to update the C-ing Red Index Of Hitting Hotness or whatever I called it. There’s a lot of bright red and dark blue.
The bottom is obvious – it’s clear why Reds fans are a little angry about Cozart and Stubbs at the top of the lineup. They’ve both been pretty terrible, and even worse in the last week. In the last seven days, Stubbs is boasting a .247 OPS, and Cozart is even worse. At .208, his week-long OPS would be a bad average. It’s one thing to be a streaky, strikeout prone hitter when your season OPS is .847 (like Bruce) and when its .649 (like Stubbs).
Thankfully, Phillips, and not-so-old-man Rolen are picking up the slack for the last week. Frazier’s maintaining his non-Votto team leading OPS, and Ludwick and Hanigan have only been a little cold (as compared to others).
On the bench, Heisey has been lifted by last night’s two home run performance, and Valdez has actually improved for the last week. Cairo’s only had 5 plate appearances in the last week, but he hasn’t gotten base in any of them.
Here’s the basic numbers, the index with the colors is in the sidebar.
