Reds Are Cold As Ice, Willing To Sacrifice Their Bunts

How cold? This cold.

It’s been awhile, but I’ve updated the C-ing Red Index Of A Hitter’s Relative Hotness on the right sidebar. It’s no surprise that we’re struggling lately, if the only not-ice-cold players we have are a second baseman, a platoon-left-fielrder, half a week of a centerfielder returning from injury, and a backup catcher. Joey Votto being ‘cold’ for the first time this year, really convinces you of how much he means to this team.

But, to put this problem in perspective: we’re still in first place, and this week had been good for the pitchers. And, astoundingly, our team .693 OPS for the last seven days puts us at 22nd in MLB overall. Before looking it up, I would’ve assumed we were doing worse. All in all, I think I’m looking forward to the All-Star Break.

Here’s the splits:

Yeah. Ugh.
