Buckeyes: What we’ve learned from SDSU

I didn’t think the Buckeyes would cover the spread after the showing against Buffalo. I was open about that. I was wrong, and that’s a good thing. OSU won the game rather handily 42-7, beating the spread and silencing the doubters. Only, well, the doubters were not silenced one bit.

No matter what this team does, it’s not getting to the National Championship game.

While this may not be under something we’ve learned, per se, and may sound more like whining, it’s hard to dispute. OSU dropped in the AP and Coaches poll. Only the Coaches matter for BCS purposes, but don’t for one second think they aren’t influenced by the AP. I was comfortable with OSU slipping to 3 in the AP last week. I am not comfortable with them slipping to 4. I’m especially not comfortable as the majority of voters tabbed them as 3 with an even split between the voters putting them at 2 or 4 and the voting was influenced by voters on the extremes. Don’t believe me? Look for yourself.

Basically, OSU was without a Heisman contender at QB for pretty much the entire game, wins by a larger margin than expected WITH the starting QB, and it is seen as less impressive than Clemson and Oregon wins against crap opponents while at basically full strength. That’s why this team won’t go to the BCS Championship Game, regardless of what they do.

Kenny G is the best backup in CFB.

Find me a better one. Go ahead, I’ll wait. You will not find one. Guiton came in on a mission and looked great. I’ve been a Guiton fan since his first Spring Game where I spent most of the day saying “who IS this guy??” He would start at a large chunk of B1G schools and possibly even a large chunk of FBS schools. He’s freakishly talented and the fact he didn’t transfer due to his loyalty to the program makes me an even bigger Kenny fan. If Braxton can’t go on Saturday and Kenny starts, I have a feeling he’ll be just fine.

Hall and Wilson are cementing themselves as the top-two RBs.

Good luck, Carlos. I’m not sure you’re going to get the carries this year. Sure, there will be cases where a big, power back will be used, but Hall and Wilson are doing just fine, thanks. Holding onto the ball was nice, too. Wilson was taking much better care to keep it in his hands, which was to be expected.

Overall, the RB corps are freakishly deep. It’s a good problem to have.

TBDBITL>UM’s band.

Yep, you tried to mock them, TTUN, and they completely pwned you.
