Rather than me coming up with an image to represent tonight’s Colorado Rockies at L.A. Dodgers game, let’s paint a picture together.
Envision the Dodgers logo. Now add arms, legs, angry eyes, and a mocking mouth. And give it a baseball bat to hold.
Got it?
Now picture the Colorado Rockies logo, also with arms and legs, but with eyes stretched wide in fear and a mouth gaping open in disbelief.
Got it?
Finally, animate the images. Let the Dodgers hit the Rockies repeatedly with the bat until the Rockies logo is raising its arms to fend off the blows while rolling impotently on the ground and crying.
That’s pretty much what this game was like. They lost 2 – 8. Their May record was 8 – 21. They won only one series in the entire month. Their defense continues to be poor. Their pitching is ok but not tremendous. They leave runners on base. And not enough people are hitting well.
Oh, and with tonight’s loss, the Rockies have slid to fourth in the NL West…directly behind the Dodgers.
Basically, they are a good team that insists on playing like a bad team. At some point, don’t you just become a bad team?
The Rockies will have one more chance to redeem themselves at Dodger Stadium, Wednesday night at 8:10 pm MT. Let’s all hope they manage a better showing than they’ve mounted thus far.
