Flower Power

The win against the Flyers’ on Saturday was a big one for goalie Marc-Andre Fleury.

With the 3-1 win, Fleury beat Tom Barrasso to become the Penguins’ franchise leader in all time goalie wins. Today’s win was win number 227.

It must have been nice for Fleury to get the win in Philadelphia. After all, this was the team that made him look awful during the first round of the Stanley Cup playoffs this past season. It was nice to see him get his confidence back.

Tyler Kennedy got the first goal for the Penguins this season, assisted by Paul Martin, on the power play. Yes, you read that correctly.

James Neal scored goal number 2, assisted by his linemate Evgeni Malkin.

Newly minted captain of the Flyers Claude Giroux scored the lone goal for the Flyers, cutting the Pens lead in half, but Chris Kunitz scored an empty netter to seal the victory for the Penguins.

The Pens don’t have much time to rest. They play the New York Rangers, who lost 3-1 to the Bruins, on Sunday. It’s definitely going to be an intense one, since the Rangers will want to win.

Puck drops at 7:00PM. Let’s go Pens!

Report: Pens To Open Season Against Flyers

This is probably tame compared to what will come

Get your alcohol of choice ready!

According to reports on Twitter, the Pens will open the season in Philadelphia against the Flyers on January 19th at 1:00PM.

As everyone remembers, our quest to the Cup ended in Philadelphia last season, and there was a lot of ugliness between the two teams. More so than usual.

During the off-season, Giroux accused Crosby of slashing his wrists during faceoffs. When asked about it, Sid said he didn’t realize he did and that if he did, he didn’t care. Oh boy.

Stay tuned for more schedule updates as they come in!

The Penguins Suck; Fall 8-5 To The Flyers

Why do you hurt me so bad?

This will be short, because pretty much everyone knows what happened, and I can’t bear to relive it.

What can I say that can be read by people of all ages?

The Pens took the early lead, with Sidney Crosby scoring 15 seconds into the first period. But a hat trick for both Sean Couturier and Claude Giroux quickly made the game the Flyers’ game, which means the Pens are now down 2-0 in the series.

The next game, on Sunday, is in Philadelphia. Maybe a change of scenery will help the Pens out? Game 3 is a must win if they don’t want their cabooses swept.

What The Penguins Can Learn From Last Night

Wednesday’s game one against the Philadelphia Flyers is probably one the Penguins would like to forget. After leading 3-0 early in the game, they lost to the Flyers 4-3, with the Flyers scoring 4 unanswered goals, and took the win for the first game.

The thing is, this shouldn’t be a game the Penguins forget. They need to keep this game fresh in their memory so that they can learn not what to do in tomorrow’s game.

1. HOCKEY IS A 60 MINUTE GAME.

The Pens are guilty of this in the regular season as well. They play an incredible 20 opening minutes, score the goals then, then falter in the next 40 minutes and end up losing the game. They need to remember that hockey is a full 60 minutes, not just a 20 minute game.

2. EVERYONE NEEDS TO SHOOT AND SCORE

The Kunitz-Malkin- Neal line, arguably the best line in the NHL this season, were shut down by the Flyers last night and failed to record a point last night. However, Tyler Kennedy scored. Moral here? Don’t rely on your top guys to score. Everyone needs to take the chance and shoot the puck. It may not go in, but it may. And wouldn’t it be nice to be the guy that scored a goal that could win the game?

3. DON’T LET THE OPPONENTS INTO YOUR HEAD

The Pens are a great team who don’t normally let the opposing team get to them. That all goes out the window with the Flyers. For whatever reason, they let this team get under their skin and, from the looks of it, let them dictate the game. That isn’t Penguins hockey. This team needs to learn that the Flyers are just another opponent that can be beaten if they put their mind to it, play 60 minutes, and shoot the puck. And yes, this does go against the whole “Remember this game for future reference!” thing I am talking about. But there is a difference between remembering and learning, and letting them get in your head.

Game two is tomorrow night at 7:30PM. Let’s Go Pens!

Uh-oh. The Penguins Made A Call Up

Time for Round 2?

After last Sunday’s reimagining of ‘Slapshot’ at the Penguins/Flyers game, people were definitely thinking how Saturday’s game will go.

Well, it’s bound to get a little more interesting now.

Steve MacIntyre, known more for his fists than his scoring skills, was called up from Wilkes-Barre today in time for today’s game.

While MacIntyre was originally signed to hopefully be a sort of protection for the Penguins’ stars, he only played 11 games with us.

Here’s hoping that this game doesn’t turn into an all out brawl, like the Islanders/Penguins game last season.

Game Day #37: Flyers @ Penguins

The day has come!

It’s finally here…the game we have all been waiting for. We’ve been talking about Jagr, Talbot, and company all season long, and how they will set foot (skate?) on Pittsburgh ice for the first time this season.

Game Notes:

  • Pittsburgh has won four straight, whereas Philly has had a bit of difficulty establishing consistency.
  • Claude Giroux will be playing in his fourth game since returning from a concussion that left the team struggling to find offense.
  • The Flyers are also without their captain. Chris Pronger is currently battling post-concussion syndrome and it has already been determined he will miss the remainder of the season.

Game Day #29: Penguins @ Flyers

Tonight, Talbot shows his old team what he's learned in Philly.

We’re not going to bore you with some “City of Brotherly Love” metaphor here. Tonight’s game is going to be rough, exciting, and no one is safe from reminders of Talbot and Jagr’s existence every five seconds.

Game Notes:

  • Sidney Crosby reported he still isn’t “feeling 100%” and did not travel with the team on the trip. However, he is showing no signs of a concussion and his brief repose is a mere precaution.
  • The Philly’s Claude Giroux is on fire has of late, posting five goals and nine points in his last nine games.
  • The Flyers are also missing their captain tonight as Chris Pronger remains out as he recovers from knee surgery.

Where to Watch/Listen:

The puck drops at 7:00 PM (EST).
