Time For Updates!

Two goals in two games? Please come home Step! (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)

With only a couple of guys in Europe, and one not even playing (more on that in a minute), I’m going to stick to weekly updates for what is going on overseas. And today you get bonus coverage as we also have videos from the Whale!

So let’s get travelling!

Today we start in Switzerland where the Rangers have two guys residing. I mentioned in the opening that one guy wasn’t currently playing. That would be Rick Nash who is currently out with a sore groin. He missed all three games for his team this past week. Davos went 1-2-0 without him. The injury isn’t supposed to be serious so he should be back playing soon.

Over in Rapperswil, Michael Del Zotto is playing and finally won his first game with his Swiss team last Friday as the Lakers got some revenge on the Kloten Flyers beating them 6-4. Del Zotto had a goal and an assist:

Did Del Zotto really take the puck end to end and put it in? Do they play any defense in Europe? Not a bad saucer pass either on the assist.

Rapperswil continued their hot and cold play by losing to the Flyers the next day 5-0. The team also had a game yesterday in which Del Zotto did not play. According to this recap he is “injured”. Not sure what the injury is but as soon as we hear, we will let you know. (Side note: I’m getting tired of seeing our guys randomly not in the lineup and having to guess why. Hopefully whatever it is isn’t serious.)

Now we move to Finland where Derek Stepan finally found the back of the net…in back to back games. KalPa played four games this past week going 2-1-1. They lost the first two games 7-3 and 4-3. Stepan had no points in either but he did manage to be a plus-one in the 7-3 game. Your team gives up seven goals and you’re a plus-one? Way to go Step!

The next two games went better as they won both 2-1 and 4-2. Stepan had the first goal for his team in both games. One happened to be the game tying goal with less than four minutes to go and the other was the first goal of the game which you can see here:

Highlight reel goal? Highlight reel goal. Can we please see that in New York soon? Well just the goal…I can live without the trip.

And now here are some videos from the Whale’s games this weekend. Why? Well why not?

First up, Chris Kreider’s game winning goal from Friday night:

No, that was not a power play. It was four-on-four. Nice control and even nicer shot. This time in the AHL will be good for Kreider but the kid is going to be something special.

And here are highlights from the teams’ 5-2 victory over Norfolk on Saturday night:

Having trouble with NHL videos so click picture to watch.

Chad Kolarik’s hat trick was nice but how about that goal by Tommy Grant? Honestly, why don’t we hear more about him?

I would love to say that these highlight posts will turn into Rangers posts soon but it doesn’t look likely. I honestly believed we would have NHL hockey by this point so to say I’m disappointed in the two sides would be an understatement. Hopefully they come to their senses soon and we can get back to talk about players being in New York. I’m losing hope for that as each day passes…
