Rangers Leave Canada With No Goals Or Points

In my recap of the game versus Ottawa, I just asked for the Rangers to score a goal before leaving Canada. I knew asking for a win in Montreal was a lot so I didn’t want to be greedy. Apparently asking for a goal was too much as well.

The Rangers entered their house of horrors with one lineup change – Mats Zuccarello was in for Arron Asham. I wasn’t surprised to see Zuccarello in but Asham out caught me a little off guard. I’ll say it again, the Rangers are definitely shopping guys because otherwise that move made no sense. In other non-surprising news, Marty Biron got the start in net because he’s actually won games in his career in Montreal unlike Lundqvist.

The Week Ahead: Ch-Ch-Ch-Changes

I have absolutely nothing to say about this man, nor will I speculate on his future (Photo: clyde/ flickr)

Hey, remember the last week ahead where I said the Panthers game could be an easy victory? Or the recap of the Penguins game where I mentioned Halpern a whole bunch of times and said he was getting good opportunities on the team? Well, that obviously turned out well! The Rangers lost to the Panthers, Halpern was put on waivers and went to Montreal. This week, I am going to stick to the facts and just the facts, lest I say something that angers the hockey gods and thus curse the team. I am only going to say positive, neutral, and nice things today. Maybe that will work!

Just the facts, ma’am:

Rangers Embarrass Fans With Loss In Montreal

The guy on the left played fine tonight. The other two? Please be okay, please be okay, please be okay... (Photo: Jesse Spector/flickr)

I could sit here and give you a recap of the game. If you watched it, you don’t want one. If you didn’t, you’re lucky you missed it. (I feel like I wrote that recently…) Look, we knew they were going to lose because the Bell Centre is a house of horrors for the Rangers. It is what it is and that’s fine.

What bothers me is how they lost. I will admit I missed the first period of the game. I heard the boys actually showed up and tried to change the trend so everything I am writing about does not include the first 20 minutes of the night.

Tonight, I saw no heart. None. Zip. Zilch. Nothing.

Someone Tell Rangers & Habs There Was A Game Tonight

We all know how you feel Torts. (Photo: Melissa Andus)

The highlight of the night occurred at 5:30 pm EST when the Rangers announced Rick Nash would miss the game. At that point Rangers fans woke up and speculation began. I refuse to speculate so let’s just say he was the lucky one tonight.

The rest of us returned to our slumber at 7 pm as the teams took the ice. I really wish I had something to say about this game but I fell asleep during the first period as the teams combined for 8 shots, most coming in last five minutes. (No I didn’t actually fall asleep. I was “lucky” enough to be at the game. Pretty sure it was worse being there although I did get some great pics – see above.)

One Year Ago Today: Win Streak Comes To Crashing Halt

No Ranger deserves to lead into the post for this game so figured might as well put Cally’s long-time friend instead. He also got two goals in the game. (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)

Throughout the lockout, many blogs are doing fake recaps of the games that should’ve been taking place. I’ve decided to go another route by doing real recaps…of the games that happened on that date one year ago.

The Rangers came into their game against the Canadiens in Montreal on a Saturday night feeling good. They were on a seven game win streak and well rested after playing only once in the past seven days. And while in the past the Bell Centre hadn’t been good to them, particularly Lundqvist, they thought they had a chance.

They were wrong.

One Year Ago Today: Saturday Night Thriller Between Rangers & Habs

You know I love you but I was so mad at you during this game. And that was without knowing you would play your last game a month later. (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)

Rangers and Canadiens on a Saturday night is always an experience. Doesn’t matter if the game is in New York or Montreal, it is guaranteed to be the Hockey Night in Canada game and the two teams guarantee to put on a show. (Sometimes that show is one team completely dominating the other but it’s a show nonetheless.) On November 5, 2011, the two teams did not disappoint.

Prust Raises Over $100K For Kids Kicking Cancer

Prust hoped to raise $100k. I think he reached his goal. (Photo: @Maripiermorin/twitter)

I know, I know…Brandon Prust is no longer a Ranger. I’m having trouble accepting that so until he officially wears a Habs jersey for a game, we’re still going to talk about him. Especially when it’s a story such as this one. Sorry.

More Rangers Moves + Goodbye To Fan Favorite

We’re going to miss you Prusty! (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)

They don’t call July 1st Christmas Day in the NHL for nothing. Moves were made fast and furious and continue to be done as the day goes on. As mentioned earlier, the Rangers re-signed Stu Bickel but lost John Mitchell to the Avalanche. Other moves made that affected the team:

* Rangers signed forwards Arron Asham and Michael Haley to two year contracts. Asham’s deal is for $1 million per year and completes his tour of the Atlantic Division. No terms yet for Haley but assumed to be a two-way contract. I have nothing to add to this right now so draw your own conclusions.

* Brandon Prust signed a four year, $10 million deal with the Montreal Canadiens. If you’ve been reading my posts since the end of the season, you would know I really wanted Prust back (guess my jinx yesterday didn’t work) but in the end it came down to the money and Sather wasn’t offering that. He better not think of fighting anyone on our team or scoring a short-handed goal against Henrik. Otherwise I wish him luck, not only in his career but in living up to that contract. He’s a good player but that sounds like one of those deals a team regrets really quickly. (Just my opinion, hopefully for his sake I’m wrong.)

* Rangers re-signed forward Kris Newbury, who spent most of the time since he joined the Rangers with the Connecticut Whale. His deal is two years, two way.

* CT goalie Chad Johnson signed a one year, two way contract with the Phoenix Coyotes. Unfortunately nowhere for him to go in Rangers organization so good to see he ended up with our “sister” team ;-) Good luck Dos Nueve!

Pretty sure all of these moves won’t hit me till the season starts. Either way, there is definitely more to come. We’ll keep you posted.
