Welcome to the Rangers, Darroll Powe! (Photo: Dinur Blum/flickr)
Well that was fun, right? The Rangers took a relatively quiet day where the big news was Ryan Callahan was skating (albeit in a non-contact jersey) and Dan Girardi wasn’t (maintenance day, although those always worry me) and turned it on it’s head.
Let’s go over the moves and how they affect the Rangers roster tonight and going forward.

Good luck in Minnesota Rupp! (Photo: M Richter/flickr)
I can’t say I understand this move but the fact that Mike Rupp got the Rangers two relatively young players makes my instinct say this is a win for New York. For those who haven’t heard, the Rangers traded Rupp to the Minnesota Wild for forwards Darroll Powe, who will join the Rangers, and Nick Palmieri, who will head to Connecticut.
I don’t know much about either player except that Powe is an ex-Flyer and Palmieri is an ex-Devil. Here are career stats for both (Powe and Palmieri). We’ll have more on this later after I digest the fact that the Rangers made a trade.
In the meantime, I want to wish Rupp good luck in Minnesota. He isn’t a bad player and I heard great things about him in the room, but on the ice he didn’t fit into Torts system. The good news is we no longer have to worry about seeing #17 running around the ice and thinking twice before realizing who it is. Good luck Rupper!

Hey boys, let’s all pitch in so Torts doesn’t make this face. (Photo:

Editors Note: We are planning for this to become a weekly feature on the site. Again, if anyone would prefer to see daily previews, let us know. Which reminds me…everyone welcome our new “previewer” Diana Griffin to the site!
Hockey’s back! We’re going to ignore the less than impressive start to the season, and keep the faith in the Blueshirts! Nash scored a really pretty first goal for the Rangers, Lundqvist has already posted a contender for best save of the season, and the pre-season jitters can be shaken by some solid practice. Let’s hope we see very little of Tortorella’s wtf face this season. Here’s what the boys in blue have to tackle in the week ahead:

Two of these guys played great last night. The third? Not so much. (Photo: Jesse Spector/flickr)
In my haste to recap the lackluster play of the Rangers last night, I forgot to mention a couple of things which will come into play in tonights’ game.
First off, as you probably noticed, there were some numbers out there that didn’t look right. My favorite comment of the night came from twitter as someone said the line of “Dubinsky, Anisimov and Betts” looked great out there. Obviously they weren’t on the ice but some fans can’t let go of numbers. I can accept other people taking 15 at this point. The other two? Not going to lie, it’s a little soon.
Anyway, here are the number changes:

Not only did training camps start today, but a bunch of Ranger players are celebrating birthdays. Earlier we focused on Marc Staal. Now, it’s time to discuss the other birthday boy of the day – Mike Rupp!
Rupp is basically known for his physical play. In 60 regular season games last season he had 13 fights. Since I didn’t want to show all of them, here he is against Cam Janssen during the first meeting between these two teams last season:

I love watching these two score against the Penguins almost as much as I think they love doing it. (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)
Throughout the lockout, many blogs are doing fake recaps of the games that should’ve been taking place. I’ve decided to go another route by doing real recaps…of the games that happened on that date one year ago.
The game didn’t start well. But then again, games against the Penguins never do. But this one started so poorly that Tortorella used his timeout at 5:43…of the first period. Unfortunately without 24/7, we will never exactly what he said. But it worked. And by the end of the night, the talk was back to the fact that the Penguins blew another game against a division rival.
Oh and a bad hit by a Ranger on his former teammate.

I’m not going to recap this game. I can’t. There are no words I can put down here that will capture the emotions fans ran through during that game. I’m not sure how I would’ve done it if I had to in real time.
From Marc Staal making his season debut to Ilya Bryzgalov being benched or the Rupp salute to the penalty shot and hectic last minute of the game, there are just no words for this game.

Who else would you expect me to put at the top of the last post of the year? I miss you. Please come back to NY soon! (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)
I can’t believe it’s been eight months since I started this site. Thank you to all of you who read my babble each day (if there are any of you out there actually reading this).
I’m going to end 2012 with some tweets by our boys. It’s conversations like the one below which is why I love this team so much.

My lasting memory of the game between the Panthers and Rangers on December 30, 2011? The crap that took place with eight seconds to go along with the ridiculous quotes that followed afterwards. I really hate when games are remembered for stuff like that rather than things that actually happened on the ice.
The good news was in their final tune-up before the Winter Classic, the Rangers did actually get back in the win column as they once again chased a Panthers goalie.

This one is actually one year ago today last night as episode 3 aired on December 28th right after the Caps game. I actually remember hoping the post game didn’t run over because I didn’t want to miss any of 24/7. I’m pretty sure I ended up missing the end of the post game.
Episode 3 was based mostly on the game between the Rangers and Flyers that took place right before Christmas – the one the Rangers won so we knew the episode would be good for Rangers fans.
Little didn’t we know what else we were in store for as our boys also took us to their personal Christmas party and we got to watch one of them buy a Christmas tree. Of course, they showed the Flyers too as the game where Laviolette had a run in with a Dallas player took place during this week as well so lot’s of videos to get to.
