It wasn’t pretty. But all the Rangers had to do was score one more goal than the Bruins tonight to keep their season alive. Somehow, and I’m not sure how, they managed to do it.
Before we get to the actual game, their were some huge lineup changes that I need to address. On defense, we all knew Anton Stralman was out since he hadn’t been seen since the end of the second period on Tuesday night. I will say I was surprised Roman Hamrlik got the nod over Matt Gilroy as I figured speed would be an issue. Then I remembered Gilroy is basically a turnover machine so I guess Tortorella trusted Hamrlik more. And apparently he trusted him a lot more since he actually got two shifts in overtime.
At forward came the shocker – Brad Richards was a healthy scratch. I get it. I do. He’s been useless out there and if it was anyone else, they would’ve been scratched long before tonight. I still couldn’t believe Torts scratched him. And for those saying he was wrong in doing so, I disagree. Richards gets it. I would be shocked if he moped around because of it. He knows he’s having a horrible year and if he could change it, he would. That said, the entire situation sucks. Of course it brought up the discussion of him being bought out this summer but that’s a post for another time.
