Tonight it was announced that the Rangers signed 36-year old center Jeff Halpern to a one year deal for $700k.

I’m going to be honest, I don’t know much about Halpern so not sure what to think about this. I’m thinking this is a depth signing unless the Rangers have something else planned. (Please be a depth signing….)

His stats show he is very good on face-offs (ended last season 5th in the league at 58.3%) and penalty kills. Sounds like a really good depth signing. Immediate reaction is he replaces John Mitchell and helps with the loss of Brandon Prust.

If Jesse Spector is okay with this signing, then I’m okay with this signing. Looks like the bottom of the line-up is starting to come into focus. Hopefully Sather can sure up the top half soon as well.
