Everything was all good and rosy in Ranger-world after last nights’ 3-2 victory over the New Jersey Devils. Then Henrik Lundqvist spoke to the media and we all became sick inside as he said the following:
I don’t think there are worse words I could read from a beat writer than that. I honestly don’t know what is worse, the fact that he felt that way or the fact he shared with the media that he COMPLETELY IGNORED THE LEAGUE’S CONCUSSION PROTOCOL!
Sorry for the caps, but really Henrik? Come on! You are smarter than this! I get that you are a competitor and that you want to help the team but headaches after getting elbowed in the head are bad. And if you want to know what happens if you keep playing through them, talk to Marc Staal. He can tell you all about it. (Side note: I hope like hell that Marc saw those quotes and calls him to scream at him.)
I just don’t understand how he thinks this isn’t a problem. How brainwashed are these guys?
And don’t get me started on what this actually means. I love Dan Girardi. Honestly, he’s one of my favorite Rangers. But if he took Lundqvist out, he better hide because the team is screwed without their goaltender. The funny part is Lundqvist played his best hockey after that hit. Even with that and him saying he thinks he’s okay, I still don’t think we are out of the woods.
I could honestly go on and on about how mad I am at Lundqvist for this but I’m going to spare you the tirade. Let’s just hope it truly is nothing. But if Cam Talbot appears on the ice at practice….
