Loose Odds & Ends: Halpern, Pyett & Richards…Lots Of Richards

Today is one of those days we will tie up all the loose odds and ends we missed throughout the day.

Late last night, word came down that the Rangers signed veteran forward Jeff Halpern. That deal became official today. Caps writers caught up with Halpern in DC where he said this about joining the team:

“Like I said at the end of the season, I was hoping one person’s opinion would be different than someone else’s opinion. Happy to get an opportunity to go back to work and with a good organization, a good coach and a good team.”

Doesn’t sound like he had many options. Hopefully that becomes the Rangers gain and 29 other teams’ loss.

The Rangers also signed defenseman Logan Pyett to a one year, $600k deal. Not sure if this is a one-way or two-way contract. Pyett previously played for the Red Wings AHL affiliate for the past four years and is expected to play in Hartford next season, at least to start. The New York Rangers blog found these notes about Pyett.

Today was also the day that pictures from the ESPN Body Issue were released. You may have heard that one of our own would be featured in this years issue. I present to you Brad Richards. ALL of Brad Richards.

I apologize to anyone who didn’t want to see that but honestly it was everywhere today so I doubt anyone missed it. There’s video too which you can see here. As for the picture….interesting pose. Yeah, that’s all I got at the moment.

And finally I feel the need to mention the greatest prank pulled on the Rangers fanbase today. Late last night, Greg Caggiano, a freelance blogger, tweeted the following:

As he expected, it spread like wildfire with everyone trying to figure out if it was real. He continued to play games all morning until 1pm when he tweeted this:

The link lead to this article: “A Great Social Experiment with NHL Trades on Twitter“. Props to you Mr. Caggiano. I never believed the rumor for a second (check my twitter feed) but many people did. I’ve always wondered if someone could pull this off. My favorite was when he said Aaron Portzline of the Columbus Dispatch (the guy who I said has been on top of this from the start) didn’t have his “sources” after he stated nothing was going on.

As for actual Rick Nash news…status quo. Did you expect anything less?
