Whale Start Year On Right Note

Congrats on your first shutout of the season against the baby Flyers! Lundqvist would be proud! (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)

As the calendar turned to 2013, the Whale hoped they left their recent style of play back in 2012. At least for one game, they can say they did as they started the new year on a very good note against the Adirondack Phantoms, i.e. baby Flyers.

One lineup change to note – now that he’s no longer suspended, Dylan McIlrath was back in the lineup hoping he can play more than one game before being taken out again. One Year Ago Today: HBO 24/7 Episode 4

Since I didn’t put him at the top of the Winter Classic post – Welcome Back Staalsy! (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)

Throughout the lockout, many blogs are doing fake recaps of the games that should’ve been taking place. I’ve decided to go another route by doing real recaps…of the games that happened on that date one year ago.

All good things must come to an end. (Except the lockout…that’s a horrible thing that doesn’t seem to want to end.)

I have no idea what it was like for the players and teams, but for fans HBO 24/7 is one month where they get to go behind doors they never thought they would be able to. I’ll admit that I was probably more excited for the TV series than the actual game (but that might have to do with the fact that I hate playing any team in our division).

Episode 4 was exactly what you would expect it to be. It gave a little bit of inside info leading up to the game but spent the majority of the episode allowing fans to re-live the Winter Classic. Most Rangers fans didn’t mind. Not sure how Flyers fans felt. (Side note: Can we get one more episode of 24/7 for the next time these two teams play? I want to know what is said in the locker room now that the Flyers haven’t beaten the Rangers since February 20, 2011.)
