CT Whale Camp Opens Today + Richards’ Plans

Kris Newbury is one of the players hoping to make a good impression at CT Whale camp this week so he can get back to wearing this jersey…whenever the season begins. (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)

There is hockey at the MSG Training Facility! Sure it’s not the hockey we all want it to be but it’s still hockey.

The Connecticut Whale officially opened their training camp today after their conditioning skates were held yesterday. (Those poor kids. No word about how they went so I’m assuming they all survived.)

Nash Injury Just A Bruise

I’m okay guys, stop worrying. (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)

Gosh I’ve missed hockey season. It’s the only time when everyone freaks out over every little bit of news even though they know the official announcement doesn’t come out till the next day and usually isn’t as bad as they expected. Such was the case with Nash.

Word from Switzerland was that his shoulder is just bruised and he’ll be sidelined for about a week. Rangers confirmed MRI showed nothing per Larry Brooks at the New York Post. Would rather it be nothing but I guess when all is said and done, that isn’t too bad. Let’s just hope nothing more happens before he is able to come home.

Unfortunately by being sidelined, he misses the Sharks battle tonight as Thornton plays against SJ teammate Logan Couture who is playing for HC Geneva. That should be a good one ;-)

As for Hagelin, he isn’t expected to fly out to Sweden until early next week so no games for him just yet.

Nash Hurt, Hagelin Headed Home *UPDATED*

Please don’t be seriously hurt… (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)

Isn’t Friday supposed to be a good day? Unfortunately no good news in Rangers world today.

Word from Switzerland is Rick Nash was hurt in the first period of his game against Lugano. Kevin DeLury over at The New York Rangers Blog says it was first reported as a shoulder injury, then rumored to be a concussion. In NHL terms, he has an upper body injury and didn’t return. Just what Rangers fans wants to hear.

To be honest, I hope he’s fine and everyone is freaking out over nothing. But if he is indeed injured, it better be a shoulder injury. Because if it’s a concussion, I can guarantee Columbus won that trade before anyone plays a game for their new teams.

CT Whale Training Camp Opens This Weekend

Who’s ready for Whale hockey? (Photo: Jame DiBianco/flickr)

Starting this weekend, we will finally have Rangers hockey to talk about. No, not actual Rangers hockey. Baby Rangers hockey!

The Connecticut Whale are scheduled to open their training camp this Sunday at the MSG Training Facility. Camp is usually held in Hartford at their facilities but with the Rangers facility not being used, might as well get the boys some better equipment. Interested to know where they are all staying though.

(Also, here’s an interesting one for you – Rangers players are locked out of the facility. Chris Kreider was sent to the Whale and will be in camp. Is he allowed in?)

Hanging Out With Henrik Lundqvist

Who wants to “hangout” with Henrik? (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)

Earlier this afternoon, Henrik Lundqvist took part in a Google+ Hangout, which is basically a video chat with fans for those who don’t know (I didn’t).

I’ve made comments about his new management team as he seems to be marketing himself everywhere (and I don’t for a second believe he posts everything that ends up on his twitter account) but this is really cool. Hopefully he does more of these and more players join in as well.

The entire video is below.

Was A Second Ranger Almost On His Way To Europe?

Not surprised some European team wants you. (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)

I have a confession to make. When I decide I’m interested in something, I become obsessed with it to the point that I have to know everything about it. Why am I telling you this? Because that is how I am with hockey.

For some reason, I can’t completely explain it, I must read every article I come across that has something to do with the game. Especially if it is brought to my attention by a writer I trust or a player I root for.

Such was the case yesterday, when Stu Bickel tweeted this article regarding locked out players in Minnesota getting kicked off the ice by a figure skating coach.

Some Things In Life Just Aren’t Fair

Last week, Henrik Lundqvist tweeted that he was going to see the Boss, Bruce Springsteen, in concert.

Last night, he had other plans.

Fantasy Football Smack Talking, Rangers Style

Will fantasy football ruin this friendship??? (Photo: Bridget Samuels/flickr)

Most athletes are also sports fans. The Rangers are no different as when they aren’t playing, you can always find them at basketball, baseball or football games. And thanks to twitter, we now know that they play fantasy leagues as well.

I bring to you the Rangers fantasy football league.

Nash Scores Natural Hat Trick In Swiss Debut

I have a feeling HC Davos of the Swiss League isn’t going to be the only European team I’m going to be following over the next few months. More on that in a little bit.

In the meantime, Rick Nash (and buddy Joe Thornton) made quite a successful debut in Switzerland helping to lead his team to a 9-2 win over Rapperswil-Jona Lakers. How did he help? Oh, just by scoring a NATURAL HATTRICK IN THE FIRST PERIOD. No big deal. Guys do that all the time, right?

Yeah, no. I really hope Rangers fans don’t expect that performance whenever the NHL decides they should have a season because it won’t be happening.

Derek Boogaard’s Parents File Lawsuit Against NHLPA

I really don’t like writing stories like this… (Photo: Matthew D. Britt/flickr)

Just what the NHLPA needs right now – a lawsuit from the family of an ex-NHL player. Whether they like it or not, sounds like they have to deal with it.

According to this report (yes we are going by a TMZ report at the moment; if anyone can find something more official, please send to me), Derek Boogaard’s family is suing the NHLPA for not helping them collect the balance of Boogaard’s contract after his death. The lawsuit is for $9.8 million (which is more than double the amount of his remaining contract).
