Rangers Sign Taylor Pyatt
While the rest of the hockey world waits to hear where Zach Parise and Ryan Suter will be signing, Glen Sather decided to take advantage of getting a player he knew other teams might want by signing Taylor Pyatt to a two year, $3.1 million contract ($1.55 million per year cap hit).
Hello blue eyes! Oh right…hockey stats…
The soon-to-be 31-year old Pyatt spent the last three seasons in Phoenix after spending previous seasons with Vancouver, Buffalo and his rookie year on Long Island. The Rangers got an ex-Coyote? No way! (Editors Note: As someone who is also a Coyotes fan, I have no problem with this move.) While the Rangers locker room is filled with guys from Minnesota, Pyatt has a connection to someone else – he’s a Thunder Bay native who I believe grew up with the Staal brothers. (Not because they are all from Thunder Bay; I do remember reading they are friends just can’t find the link now.)
His stats won’t wow you but he’s a left winger, something the Rangers are severely lacking, and uses his big frame to hit anyone who gets in his way. He’s gone through some personal things I wouldn’t wish on my worst enemy (back story for anyone who doesn’t know) but is a real good guy who will fit right in with this team.
Plus let’s be honest…the Rangers are the best looking team in the league and he will fit right in. Is it Casino Night yet?
