Rangers Out On Greinke

Via T.R. Sullivan:

The Rangers have been told that Zack Greinke is not signing with them, according to industry sources. It appears the Dodgers are going to sign him for a six-year deal. But the Rangers are out.

Texas Rangers: Following the Trade Deadline Through the Twitter Looking Glass

Let’s make a trade!

Earlier Thursday morning these baseball “insiders” tweeted these things:

Jon Morosi@jonmorosi

One industry source believes Zack Greinke will be dealt before Ryan Dempster. Dempster to Dodgers possibility remains in limbo.

Dodgers and Rangers now in on James Shields, along with Angels.

Ken Rosenthal@Ken_Rosenthal

Shields isn’t only Rays pitcher that the Angels are considering.

DKnobler@DKnobler

One scout on Shields: “His stuff is still good, but he hasn’t had Shields-like command.”

Mike DiGiovanna@MikeDiGiovanna [Angels beat writer]

So Angels skip Santana Fri, move Haren, Wilson up, leaving rotation opening for Sun … the day Greinke is scheduled to pitch. Interesting.

Rays are saying they’d move any pitcher but Moore/Price, but Shields ($9 million next year) is most likely to go.

Bob Nightengale@BNightengale

The Angels were rebuffed by the Rays in their pursuit of James Shields, offering speedy OF Peter Bourjos, but the Rays want more in return

Dodgers still thought more likely for Dempster or (if he shows he’s healthy) Garza. But they’ve scouted Shields, are interested.
