Texas Rangers: Losing To The Cubs Blows

Excuse me as the Cardinals fan in me took over this post…

Guys, I detest the Cubs.  I make no secret of this.  It’s even stated in my Twitter profile.  So having to cover not one, but two games in which the Rangers lose to the Cubs does not make me a happy camper.  NOT AT ALL.  In fact, it makes me a bit rage-y.

So what happened?  Well, you know that Colby Lewis who loves giving up home runs?  Yeah, he showed up.

Things started out promising with an easy 1-2-3 1st inning.  Then came the 2-run bomb to Joe Mather (AKA Joey Bombs…former Cardinal, so forgive me as I pout that he is now in Cubby blue).  Then another home run (a 3-run shot), this one courtesy of former Ranger Alfonso Soriano.  Humpf.  I thought Colby only gave up solo shots?  Where did that guy go?

Texas Rangers Weekly Rundown

A lot has happened in the Rangers organization this week that it’s hard to keep up, so I thought a weekly summary was fitting.  Here we go:

Tuesday – Rangers hire Greg Maddux as a special assistant to the GM.  Rangers also announced their 2012 Spring Training schedule.  Vegas for St. Patty’s Day anyone?

Wednesday – Mitch Moreland has wrist surgery; expected to be out 8-12 weeks.  Rangers announce that Thad Levine will not be pursuing the GM job in Houston (because I’m sure he felt that he didn’t stand a chance once the Astros see my stellar resume).

Thursday – Rangers trade Taylor Teagarden to the Baltimore Orioles for 2 minor leaguers, RHP Randy Henry and a PTBNL.

Friday – Rangers hire former Astros GM, Tim Purpura, to run their farm system.

Phew!  Just summarizing everything has exhausted me!  Things should be equally exciting next week, as the Winter Meetings are being held here in Dallas.  Don’t worry, this girl will be lurking in the hotel bar hoping to hear a few rumors.  I don’t expect to be successful.

Will Greg Maddux Join His Brother In Texas?

More Madduxes?  Yes, please.

After several weeks of fretting that Mike Maddux would leave Texas for a gig up in Chicago, it now seems that Greg may be the one relocating.  According to DallasNews.com, Greg has left his position with the Cubs organization.

Rumor has it he will take a similar position with the Rangers, working with pitchers at both in the majors and minors on technique and such – basically teaching them the Maddux magic.

Nothing’s confirmed yet.  FINGERS CROSSED.

UPDATE (11/29/2011, 3:20pm): Jed Hoyer has confirmed on MLB Network Radio that Greg is, in fact, joining his brother in Texas.
