Mariners 6, Rangers 3

The Starter

Martin Perez took Scott Feldman’s start this time through the rotation. Perez went only four innings, allowing six hits, giving up four runs [three earned], two walks and three strike outs. Funny that Scott Feldman relieved Perez going three innings and allowing only one hit, while striking out five. Alexi Ogando pitched the eighth inning, giving up a two out home run to of all people Miguel Olivio and striking out two. Rangers still have to wonder if that forearm stiffness is bothering him. Ogando has given up eight home runs in 60 innings. The staff as a whole combined for two walks and ten strikeouts.

The Bats, Gloves And Bases

David Murphy had three hits and three RBI, including a solo home run and a double. Elvis Andrus and Nelson Cruz each had two hits. The team went 1-7 with RISP. Craig Gentry was caught stealing, his seventh time this season. He also misplayed where the wall was going back on a ball in centerfield in the fourth that resulted in a triple.

Michael Young made his sixth error of the season, his second one at third base. If you play without players of the caliber of OF Josh Hamilton and 3B Adrian Beltre long enough, its going to catch up to you and it did on Friday. Michael Young was subbing for Beltre at third and for Hamilton in the No. 3 spot and came up short in both areas. Young’s most egregious mistake was a badly botched two-out grounder in the fourth that squirted out of his glove and allowed an extra run to score, making it 4-2, Seattle and I ended up being the difference in the game.

The Rangers grounded into three double plays, including the eighth and ninth innings.

LH Matt Harrison [17-9, 3.26 ERA, 120 K, 138 ERA+, 1.25 WHIP]. He won his career-high 17th game last Sunday against Seattle, allowing a run in 8 2/3 innings. He has won nine straight starts against the Mariners and is 10-1 lifetime against them. He has allowed three runs to the M’s in his last 32 innings.

RH Blake Beavan [9-10, 4.88 ERA, 63 K, 76 ERA+, 1.26 WHIP]. Beavan limited the Rangers to two runs in seven innings his last time out but still took the loss. After going 6-2 following his recall from Triple-A, Beavan has lost two straight starts.
