Ugh-ly Loss: Magic 102, Knicks 93

Ugh.

The Knicks are maddeningly frustrating. It seems like they can’t play a complete game unless it’s against a truly terrible team like the Detroit Pistons.

Today against the Orlando Magic, the Knicks held Dwight Howard to eight points but the rest of the Magic squad hit 17 of 35 three pointers, including Ryan Anderson who hit seven three pointers. SEVEN!!!!

The Knicks looked all right for the first three quarters – hey this sounds familiar – and then fell apart toward the end of the game where they were outscored by the Magic 29-18 in the final quarter. I’ve seen this movie before and I hate the ending.

Carmelo Anthony scored 33 but his shooting was atrocious toward the end of the game. Probably because he felt like he was the only one who could do anything and also because he has about five injuries he’s trying to play through.

Amar’e Stoudemire only scored ten points, Iman Shumpert added 12 and Wilson Chandler pulled down eight rebounds.

For the Magic the aforementioned Ryan Anderson finished with 30 points on 11-19 shooting, including 7-13 from three point land. Hedo Turkoglu added 15 points and was 4-7 from behind the arc.

As god as the Magic were from three, the Knicks finished the game 5-20. Yeah…

The Knicks have now lost three in a row and things won’t get any easier for them as they will be welcoming the Phoenix Suns to the Garden on Wednesday.

Quick Hit: Knicks Win!

Yay! The Knicks won!

Do not adjust your TV’s, the New York Knicks won a game.

It wasn’t pretty and they couldn’t close it out in regulation but the Knicks were able to beat the Orlando Magic 113-106 in overtime. Carmelo Anthony had 39 points (32 in the second half) and 10 rebounds, Amar’e Stoudemire finished with 20 points and 9 rebounds. For the Magic, Dwight Howard finished with 29 points and 18 rebounds after a quiet first half and fouled out of the game in overtime on a questionable call. He also was hit with his 17th technical of the season as he was leaving the court.

Up next for the Knicks: The New Jersey Nets on Wednesday.

A not so great stat from ESPN: Since Carmelo Anthony’s debut on Feb. 23, New York has lost eight games to Eastern Conference teams with records below .500, including two to the Cleveland Cavaliers. Hopefully they can buck that trend on Wednesday night.

Countdown, T-Minus 12 Games

The New York Knicks are currently sitting in seventh place in the Eastern Division (third in the Atlantic Division) with a 35-35 record, one game behind the sixth place Philadelphia Sixers. They are 4-6 in their last ten games, in the midst of a three game losing streak and are only 7-9 since the Carmelo Anthony trade.

The Knicks have twelve games left in their regular season. They have twelve games to figure out what kind of team they are. They have twelve games to get their act together before the playoffs begin. If the playoffs were to begin today, they’d be matched up against the 50-19 Boston Celtics. The Knicks were able to play a good three quarters against the Celtics on Monday night then collapsed in the fourth quarter, losing the game by ten. Not helping matters, forward Carmelo Anthony had to sit out the last few minutes after being elbowed in the face by Rajon Rondo. Anthony has faith that his team can turn things around.

“It’s a process, it’s a long process. That’s something that I keep telling myself, I keep telling the guys on the team that. At the end of the day, it’s going to get to where we want it to be at. I’m not too concerned with that. I’m confident in that. I’m positive about making that happen, making this whole thing work.”

Things do not get easier for the Knicks tonight. They’re playing the Orlando Magic (45-26) who are riding into Madison Square Garden on a three game winning streak.

These teams last met in Orlando on March 1st with the Magic coming away with a 116-110 win. The Magic are fifth in the league in scoring defense which doesn’t bode well for the Knicks who are naturally more successful when they score over 100 points in a game. Orlando has held their last five opponents to an average of 88.4 a game.

The game is at 8:00pm EST.
