Good-Bye Donnie Walsh

Thanks to James Dolan, Donnie Walsh ended his tenure as the President of the New York Knicks on Thursday. He is heading home to be with his family in Indiana.

“I’m going back to my wife and family. That’s where I’ll be. That’s where I live.”

Walsh will be a Knicks consultant for one year.

The Knicks, with the help of Walsh, made great strides in becoming relevant again. They made the playoffs for the first time 2004 and they posted their first winning season in ten years. Now, they may not have won a playoff game but they were competitive in their series with the Boston Celtics and let people know they were back in a sense.

When the news broke that Walsh would be stepping down, a lot of Knicks fans’ hearts stopped – mine included – and we were left to wonder if everything Walsh had done in the past few years would be undone by stupidity and bad decisions we’re used to see from the Dolans.

Time will tell on that one.

So I wish Donnie Walsh the best of luck, enjoy your time with your family and for the love of God, if Jim Dolan extracts his head from his rear end and offers you the job again in a year, please take it. Thanks.

As Knicks fans sit and wait to find out who will be replacing Donnie Walsh I’ve compiled a bunch of stories for you to read.

It’s all Walsh, all the time:

Scary News For Knicks Fans: Walsh Not Returning As President

It was revealed a short time ago that Knicks President Donnie Walsh will be stepping down. This news comes as a bit of a surprise considering the numerous reports that have been circulating in the past few weeks about the Knicks being close to making an announcement that Walsh would be staying put. Glen Grunwald will run the team as interim General Manager while the team looks for a replacement for Walsh.

Here is the statement from Owner Jim Dolan:

“Following a long series of discussions regarding his future role with the New York Knicks, Donnie Walsh and I have mutually agreed that he will be leaving his position as president, basketball operations of the Knicks at the end of June. Donnie will remain with the team as a consultant for the 2011-12 season. In a relatively short time with the Knicks, Donnie made a tremendous impact, which will be felt for many years to come. We thank Donnie for his leadership, hard work and many contributions to the revitalization of the team.

“We will now begin an immediate search for a new president and general manager, but do not have a timetable for the decision. Glen Grunwald, the Knicks’ senior vice president, basketball operations, will serve as interim general manager beginning in July, overseeing all player transactions. With some of the NBA’s premier players, an outstanding coach and one of the league’s most passionate and loyal fanbases, we are extremely confident about the future of the Knicks franchise.”

Dolan has scheduled a conference call with the media at 1:30pm.
