In Which I Rant About the Knicks’ Ineptitude

As I was skimming through my Twitter timeline this afternoon, I saw a funny tweet from a Knicks fan that asked, “Are the Knicks ever going to win another game?” The question was directed at Alan Hahn – formerly of Newsday and currently part of MSG’s postgame crew. He retweeted the despondent fan and answered, “Gonna go out on a limb here and say yes, they will win another game.” He added a wink at the end of his answer.

Let’s hope so.

Right now, the Knicks are currently in the midst of a six game losing streak. They lost all of the games on their four game homestand and are now a dreadful 6-10 on the season. Amazingly enough there is a team with a longer losing streak at the moment, the poor Toronto Raptors, who have lost eight in a row and are 4-13.

As for our Knicks, maybe all of the squawking we did on the first day of the season after they defeated the Celtics was a tad premature? Especially since the Celtics also aren’t very good this season. They had their own long losing streak snapped and are sitting at 6-9, just ahead of the Knicks in the Atlantic Division standings.

Holy Crap! The Knicks Have Won Three In Row!

Man, can the Knicks ever make things easy? Oh right, they destroyed Detroit the other night. But still, it was like they were trying to lose tonight’s game.

With a 79-71 lead with just over 6:48 left in the game, they allowed the Bobcats to go on an 11-3 run to tie the score 82-82. Oh no, not again. Didn’t Charlotte embarrass the Knicks already at MSG last week?

Picture it, a game seems at hand and then Knicks go into one of their fourth quarter funks and lose? Well, Carmelo Anthony wasn’t having it. He untied the score to stop Charlotte’s run and the Knicks just barely scraped by with a 91-87 win.

Things started off hairy when Charlotte opened up to 10-0 lead early in the first quarter. Thankfully, the Knicks remembered that it was an actual game – not warm ups – and pulled ahead 16-15 with 4:28 left in the first quarter. They didn’t relinquish the lead until that fourth quarter run by the Bobcats.

Amar’e Stoudmire led the Knicks with 25 points and 12 rebounds. Carmelo Anthony finished with 22 points on 6 of 18 shooting. Tyson Chandler pulled down 13 rebounds and was an effective seven of eight from the field and finished with 20 points.

They have tomorrow off before welcoming the Philadelphia Sixers to MSG on Wednesday. Maybe they can watch tape – or do they use DVDs now? – of the fourth quarter and learn how to not to do that ever again.

A girl can dream, right?

Knicks Mauled By Bobcats

Knicks fans' reaction to tonight's loss

In what has become as reliable as the sun rising in the East and setting in the West, the New York Knicks lost once again. This time they lost to the “lowly” Charlotte Bobcats 114-106. Carmelo Anthony scored 36 points in the losing effort and the Knicks were down by as many as 20 points during the third quarter. They’re now mired in a six game losing streak and instead of having three days to recover, they have to play a makeup game against the Orlando Magic on Monday. Have fun with that!

Now for some quotes!

Chauncey Billups:

“Camaraderie and cohesiveness and being a good team beats talent every day of the week. When we get to a point where we get that, combined with the talent, we’re going to be a very dangerous team.”

When Chauncey? WHEN?!?!

Charlotte Coach Paul Silas on the Knicks’ struggles:

“That’s kind of normal,” he said. “Any change is difficult. In time, it will be fine.”

From your lips to God’s ears Paul.

Carmelo Anthony:

“For the most part, these are teams we should be beating. We talk about that among each other — that some of these teams shouldn’t even be on the court with us. But they’re winning games and it’s just something we have to figure out.”

Um, yes, you do and quick or you will play your way out of playoff spot.

An interesting stat from ESPN: “The Knicks hate the month of March. They’ve posted losing records in the month in each of the last seven seasons. They have the worst March record in the NBA over those last seven seasons.”
