Throwback Thursday: Stars And Stripes And Leafs Forever

Here on Throwback Thursday, we have talked about baseball caps in depth before.

But today, in the twilight of American Independence Day (July 4), and, lest you forget, also in the wake of Canada Day (July 1), we shall discuss one very special kind of baseball cap:

The Stars And Stripes Hat.

Stars And Stripes make their forehead debut. Oakland Athletics, 2008.

The “Stars And Stripes Hat” is the official name given to a particular tribute edition of New Era 59FIFTY on-field baseball caps, introduced in 2008, which typically* feature a design encompassing Betsy Ross’s claim-to-fame, the good ol’ Old Glory. The Blue Jays Are Back In Blue: New Look Is A Remixed Classic

For the last Throwback Thursday: Ode To The Uni, we took a nostalgic look back at the Toronto Blue Jays uniforms of the past, and peered ahead at what we suspected we might see at the unveiling of the new Blue Jays logo and uniforms, which were released on Friday at noon.

Thursday night before the release, I dreamed of Toronto’s new uniform. The glowing royal blue jersey appeared to me in a haze, like a synthetic knit blend angel, in all its shining Torontonian splendor. A good omen.

The new unis were definitely worth the wait, and to my excitement, my hopes and (literally) my dreams became a reality. The Toronto Blue Jays returned to blue once more, and revamped their classic 1977-1996 logo for a modern look to birth a remix of the most winningest, fan-favoritist Blue Jays unis of 1992-1996.

They’re sleek. They’re sexy. They’ve got serious swag. They’re back in blue, and they pack a punch of Canadian pride. Check off every box on my wish list. Can you tell I’m obsessed?

Enough of all this chatter. I’m sure you’re eager to soak up the new uniforms, to bask in their glory, or to pick them apart pixel by pixel and glyph by glyph. Share your thoughts in the comments below!
