Today is a huge day for St. Louis Cardinals fans everywhere: it’s Carp Day. As in Chris Carpenter, the ace who had “season-ending” surgery on July 19 to alleviate a nerve condition that kept him from pitching and, oh yeah, involved removing one of his ribs (which he kept for his daughter) is making his season debut this afternoon at Wrigley Field in Chicago.
To say Cards fans are excited at the return of the team’s leader is an understatement. As soon as I heard the news, I scheduled the day off and bought a ticket so I could drive three hours to be there. I am far from alone in making the trek to Chicago.
With all of that, who else is better suited to be this week’s designated hotter? Because, yes, Chris Carpenter is rather nice to look at as well. Enjoy!

Of course Chris spent a lot of time just hanging out in the dugout this season up until now, but our friend Nicole W caught him looking good.

Sometimes he has more hair (which is good), sometimes he shaves it all off. Note to Chris: more is better! (Photo from Doug Pieper on Flickr)

Finally, the Cardinals Facebook page shared this photo of Chris, his son Sam and some furry pals a couple months ago. Awwwww …
Congratulations to Chris on making it back this season, and best of luck today.
