The Sound Tigers split their two weekend games, beating Binghamton, 4-2, but losing to Springfield, 4-1.

On Saturday night, the Sound Tigers saw tryout Scott Campbell score his first career AHL goal. Campbell’s goal, a shot that just made it past the goal line over Marc Cheverie’s shoulder, proved to be the game-winner. John Persson, Sean Backman and Ty Wishart also scored, and Kevin Poulin made 24 saves. Campbell has been impressive, with five points (one goal, four assists) over his last three games.

Sunday night, however, was a different story — while Bridgeport played hard, the bounces all went the other way. Springfield opened the scoring early in the first on an open-net goal by Nick Drazenovic, and then saw their next two goals occur on fluky plays. Wade MacLeod scored a goal that would go to video review, and then Nick Holden’s second of two deflected off of the glove of Chad Costello. Jack Combs ended Paul Dainton’s shutout bid in the final 30 seconds of the game, but by then it was just too little, too late. Johan Sundstrom was out of the lineup for this game after being injured on Saturday night.

With this weekend, the Sound Tigers are 19-17-2-2 and are right in the middle of the pack in the Eastern Conference standings. They play next at Norfolk on Friday.
