Relax! No More Uncomfortable Jaws Moments

Ron Jaworski will not be in the booth with Mike Tirico and Jon Gruden next fall.

Yeah, I’m not surprised either!

Tirico made an appearance this week on the Dan Patrick Show. Patrick, a former ESPN guy, grilled Tirico on why Jaws was getting the boot from the booth. Tirico was a little shy!

Here’s the dirt:

“I don’t know the management specifics of the how and the why,” Tirico said, via ProFootballTalk.com.

“… I did say ‘Why?,’ and honestly I’m not going to share that with everybody because that’s not everybody’s business. And the answer I got I believe.”

Any guesses as to who could become the third member of the booth in the fall? Comment!

Hue Jackson Out In Oakland

That wasn’t much of a chance!

Hue Jackson’s first season as head coach wasn’t good enough with eight wins and eight losses. Jackson was given his pink slip today by the Oakland Raiders. The firing seems to come as a shock to Jackson who was let go by new GM Reggie McKenzie, a man Jackson thought of as a friend.

McKenzie is expected to be introduced as the team’s new GM later today. Jackson told local media he expects more changes with McKenzie even using the phrase “gut” as it relates to possible changes.

Here is more on McKenzie and Jackson. Sounds like more should be expected from Raiders camp!

Doctors See Manning Improvement And Other Headlines

Peyton Manning

So Peyton Manning has achieved “firm fixation” in his neck.

Now while we stop giggling to ourselves about that and ponder what on earth that could mean, let’s focus on the most important thing … Peyton’s doctor has cleared him to step up his workouts. This is excellent news.

The quarterback, who has proved without taking a snap this season to be the most valuable player EVER, has high hopes to be able to practice with the team this month and maybe even play a game.

You know, about six weeks ago I would have been thrilled with this news. Put that jersey on. Make your Manning Face. Throw to Reggie Wayne and Pierre and Dallas. Great. But now… Now that the Colts are a dismal 0-11, I think Manning just needs to concentrate on rehab and getting completely better for next season.

There is no sense in getting him in a game situation and then one hit and his career is over. No thanks! I would like for the Colts to win a game. This is just awful football to watch. But I don’t want to see a win at the cost of Peyton.

Here is a little more about this wonderful news from NFL.com.

In Tennessee Titans news, Head Coach Mike Munchak’s name is listed amongst the possibilities to take over coaching duties at Penn State. Munchak is a Penn State alum, played for Joe Paterno in the late 70s and early 80s and he lives in Scranton … so this should be no surprise that he’s being considered. Right?

Munchak seems a little taken back by it. Check out this quote from NFL.com:

“I haven’t contacted anybody about (the) Penn State job,” Munchak told the Tennessean. “Nothing has been going on,” he added, “I haven’t reached out to anyone.”

Well Mike… that’s nice that YOU haven’t contacted anyone about the job. You’re obviously just so happy with Titans, huh. This attempt to quiet speculation just emphasizes the bigger question that you seem to have avoided though… Has anyone contacted you about the job?

Time will definitely tell on that one!

In other news, Raiders couch potato turned QB Carson Palmer said this season, where is a mere 3-1, hasn’t been easy but it’s been made much easier by Coach Hue Jackson.

Check out that heartwarming story here!

Marshawn Lynch got awarded a huge supply of Skittles after last night’s game in which he went all BeastMode on the Eagles.

According to NFL.com, and I hope you are seated for this one:

Following Lynch’s rugged, 15-yard touchdown burst in the first quarter, NFL Network’s cameras caught him snacking on a handful of Skittles, a habit that began during his salad days at Oakland Technical High School.

Our friends over in SkittlesLand wasted no time in showing their appreciation.

“Skittles is offering Marshawn Lynch a 24-month free supply & a customized dispenser for his locker for last night’s exposure,” CNBC’s Darren Rovell tweeted Friday morning.

You all have a great Friday!

Injuries Galore!

Injuries

There’s lots of injury news going around the league as we get deeper into the season. Here’s some notable ones from around the league.

* Matt Cassel has been placed on the season ending injured reserve list with a hand injury. He injured the hand in the Chiefs game against Denver. He had surgery to repair the damage. According to Coach Todd Haley, the quarterback still has a significant injury.

* The Ravens Ray Lewis sat out last week and may remain sidelined with an injury to his toe. He will get to decide whether or not he plays on Thanksgiving Day against the 49ers. Lewis’ injury isn’t considered season-ending. The Ravens expect him to return this season, and doctors have given him a similar diagnosis.

* The Vikings Adrian Peterson is doubtful for Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons. The running back suffered a high left ankle sprain. Head Coach Leslie Frazier said during his postgame news conference Sunday night that Peterson had no fractures or broken bones in the leg. The coach said Peterson has a Grade 1 sprain, the least severe of the three categories.

In other news:

* The 49ers Dashon Goldson was in a little scuffle this weekend with Arizona Cardinal Early Doucet. Goldson said it wasn’t smart of him to throw punches! Really? You think!

* Raiders Coach Hue Jackson talks about the high number of penalties his team has incurred this season.
