Elvis Dumervil has signed with the Baltimore Ravens.
Elvis Has Left… Denver
After a pretty dramatic week that included Fax-Gate, Elvis Dumervil and the Denver Broncos have parted ways and he’s headed to the Baltimore Ravens. A team that desperately needs some players. Thanks Joe Flacco!
Per NFL.com, ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported Dumervil’s contract is worth up to $35 million. He will receive $1 million in base salary in the first year and a $7.5 million signing bonus. Schefter also reported that Dumervil has a $3.5 million injury guarantee on next year’s option bonus, guaranteeing he’ll receive $12 million in the contract.
Aerys NFL’s own Brenda Stidham talks about the timing issues with Elvis and the Broncos. Check out Denver Horse Force. For more on the deal from the Ravens perspective, check out Aerys’ The Purple Nest.

It’s Sunday, which means tomorrow is Monday, so calm down and read some stuff okay.
The NFL Free Agency hoopla continued over the weekend. One of the biggest free agency stories from this weekend has been the Elvis Dumervil situation. Denver Horse Force covers the original story here. The latest from Denver Post beat writer Mike Klis suggests Dumervil will likely be replacing his agent for contract negotiations.
In Minnesota, the Vikings have a big name wide receiver and his name is Greg Jennings. Skol Patrol has much more on the signing, which happened Friday night.
There’s a lot going on in Patriots-land. Most recently, the Patrios re-signed Aqib Talib to a one-year contract. They also released wide receiver Brandon Lloyd. The bigger story though has been whether or not New England will sign Steelers restricted free agent wide receiver Emmanuel Sanders. Steel City Blitz has the latest on what’s going on with the Sanders situation.
Make sure you keep it with Aerys for all the latest on free agency.
There are things going on outside of free agency though.
There was a scary situation for wide receiver Donte Stallworth Saturday. The Miami Herald reports Stallworth and his girlfriend were injured in a hot balloon accident. According to the report, the pilot of the balloon encountered power lines. Stallworth and his girlfriend were sent to the hospital, both burned, but will recover. Hopefully both will be okay.
The Associated Press reported the latest on former Eagles running back Brian Westbrook. According to the AP, Westbrook is suffering from short-term memory loss. Westbrook, 33, has become an advocate of head injuries along with other Philly athletes.

Our shopping item for this Sunday comes straight from Denver. For about $100 plus shipping and handling, you can get your hands on a Wes Welker jersey. That’s all I can really find.
That is all we have for this day. So…are you going to finish that cinnamon roll?
120.6 MILLION DOLLARS. Joe Flacco (QB of the Super Bowl-winning Ravens) signs the NFL’s richest contract, making (yes, it’s so big it needs repeating) $120.6 million over 6 years. And to celebrate, he goes to McDonald’s. I don’t know why he didn’t get an ice cream cone.
In other big news, the Jets may trade Darrelle Revis. You can hear his opinion in this video interview with Seattle Seahawks Michael Robinson More importantly, he comments on Rex Ryan’s thing for feet.
And finally, the other big piece of news is that former All-Pro pass rusher Shawnee Merriman has announced his retirement. I guess this means it’s lights out for “Lights Out” Merriman.
Back up everyone. I’m about to predict the future.
Actually, linebacker Von Miller of the Broncos already did, claiming that Denver will win the Super Bowl this year. Let’s check back with this in a couple of months.
And of course, ladies and dudes everywhere are trying to predict the draft. Here’s a professional opinion. Here’s my opinion:
When you think of an NFL quarterback who is elite … Who comes to mind for you?
Peyton Manning? Tom Brady? Aaron Rodgers? … Joe Flacco?
A lot of people think they are elite. That just because they win a Super Bowl, they are worthy of being paid the most money in the league at their given position. Maybe they are? Maybe they aren’t. Enough of that… We want to know … Who do you think IS MOST ELITE! Here’s a poll. Answer it! And… comment below. Let us know why you think this guy is most elite! Thanks!
The playoffs and the road to Super Bowl XLVII is finally here! The defending champion New York Giants will have no shot at defending their title after they were eliminated from playoff contention Week 17. A new champion will be crowned on February 3rd. Here is a look at the playoff picture and how I think it will pan out.
It’s that time of the year when the votes will be cast for the regular season individual awards. I already did a series a few weeks ago, but held off on the MVP. I wanted the season to end to see who made the playoffs. Well the regular season is over, and here are my predictions for the MVP award.
We’re #1! We’re #1! The Chiefs may have lost (again) to the Broncos this Sunday, falling 38-3 in their final game of the season, but hey, at least they get the top draft pick in April! But even that small victory wasn’t ideal, because the Chiefs tied their losing record with the Jaguars, who also went 2-14 on the season.
The Chiefs gained a whopping 119 yards all game. QB Brady Quinn completed 7 of 16 passes for 49 yards.
QB Brady Quinn, sacked yet again
Jamaal Charles continued to carry the offense, but even he couldn’t do much, rushing for 53 yards and running for 14.
Sadly, that’s all there is to summarize, because it really wasn’t much of a game (unless you’re Peyton Manning and his circus of receivers).
So Happy New Year Chiefs fans! We can now look forward to the Pro Bowl, and it can only get better from here…right?
The AFC is set except for seeding …Remember who told you Denver was at the top first!
AFC
1. Denver Broncos (12-3): This team has figured out how to play like the old Indianapolis Colts. Get a lead, pound the ball, and rush the passer.
2. Houston (12-3): Not the best time to disappear. Should have shown more effort and energy playing for home field in front of your own crowd.
3. New England (11-4): Played like you figured they would against a poor Jacksonville team. This team is not the powerhouse everyone thought they were after the Houston game.
4. Indianapolis (10-5): This team shows fight and determination every week, and they have the QB that keeps them in every game. They now are starting to believe they can win every game.
5. Baltimore (10-5): Got a much needed boost in confidence.
Everyone likes to talk and rave about NFL offenses. This season has been a big year for defenses as well. It involves a second year pro who is in the talks for the MVP award. Here are my “Who should win”, “Who will win”, and “Honorable mention” predictions for Defensive Player of the Year.
Who should win:
J.J. Watt – DE – Houston Texans
Watt speaks volumes as to how defensive ends should be playing. He led the NFL in sacks for a while before Aldon Smith passed him. Watt’s overall numbers stand out above any defensive player in the league. He has 65 tackles, 16.5 sacks, two forced fumbles, and a whopping 15 passes defended….15! For a defensive end that’s an extraordinary number, and there’s still three games left. Watt gets ready to rush the quarterback, but is aware enough to read when a quarterback will throw the ball and changes his position to get his hands in their face. That’s why his passes defended number is so high and that’s what makes him one of the smartest defensive players in the NFL.
Who will win:
J.J. Watt – DE – Houston Texans
Argue for Aldon Smith all you want, but Watt is winning this award. He’s changing the way defensive ends play the game for the better and is making a strong case for MVP.
Honorable Mentions:
Aldon Smith – OLB – San Francisco 49ers
Voters may toss around the idea of Smith winning this award, depending on if he breaks Michael Strahan’s single season sack record. Smith could sway a few voters if he does break the record, but I still think the award is Watt’s.
Von Miller – OLB – Denver Broncos
Aside from Peyton Manning, Miller has had a huge impact for the Denver Broncos, but on the defensive side. So far this season he has 57 tackles, 1 interception, and 16 sacks. Miller will get some votes, but not nearly enough to overcome the two listed above.
Check back tomorrow for my MVP predictions
