Lots of things going on the NFL today. Let’s discuss!

* Wade Davis Comes Out. Davis, who retired from the NFL seven years ago after time with the Tennessee Titans, Washington Redskins and Seattle Seahawks, came out to OutSports.com earlier this week. Davis waited until after his retirement because he did not want to be known simply as a gay football player.

Understandable. He is a football player. That is exactly what he should be known for by his fans. Who cares who he loves?

According to LATimes.com, Davis, 34, now works for the Hetrick-Martin Institute, which serves lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender youth in New York City. ”It’s the first job since football that I wake up excited for work,” Davis said. “For these kids, the question isn’t whether they are shooting a basketball well, it’s whether they have a place to sleep tonight, whether they’ve eaten today.”

* Complaint Combined Stating NFL Knew Of Brain Injury Link. According to NFL.com, a master complaint combining dozens of existing lawsuits that accuse the NFL of not providing information linking football-related head trauma to memory loss, brain damage, and other debilitating long-term health issues was filed in federal court in Philadelphia on Thursday.

Not a big surprise.

According to NFL.com:

The lawsuit names more than 3,000 plaintiffs, according to a legal source with direct knowledge of the situation, with approximately 2,500 players among that total, and the remainder being made up chiefly of players’ wives filing for loss of spousal support.

There were 86 lawsuits filed by more than 2,300 players in the last year, according to a league source, and a judge in Philadelphia was assigned to come up with one complaint.

The master complaint is not a class-action lawsuit, but rather is a standard part of multi-district litigation. Multidistrict litigation allows for the consolidation of lawsuits that have common factual issues, and allows for more efficient handling of pretrial issues, such as discovery requests and pre-trial motions.

* Trent Richardson likely to start for Browns. No big surprise right? Well, it’s never safe to assume, but Browns head coach Pat Shurmur said that it is safe to assume Richardson will be the starting running back for the Browns.  As for the quarterback issue Shurmur faces with Brandon Weeden and Colt McCoy, a decision hasn’t been made as to who the starter will be but the coach would like to see a full body of work before making the decision.
