A few days ago, the Chicago Bulls decided not to pick up Watson and Brewer’s contracts. Also, yesterday it was stated that the Bulls decided to trade Kyle Korver (no more hot sauce) to the Atlanta Hawks. The bench mob is disappearing right before our very eyes. For two seasons, fans and the media recognized that the Chicago Bulls had one of the best benches in the league. The bench mob had plenty of moments where they carried the team to a victory, especially if the starters slacked due to injury which plagued the Bulls during both seasons. Korver was a fan favorite, but that was always a double-edged sword. He wasn’t a lockdown defender, but he was a great 3-point shooter. During his drought, things got ugly as fans called him nothing more then “liability”. Ouch.

Brewer was brought in from Utah strictly for defensive purposes. There were moments when he had confidence in his jumper, but mostly he shined when guarding opponents. Watson was a decent point guard, playing backup to Derrick Rose. He’s naturally a shooting guard, but did the best he could playing a position that wasn’t familiar with. With the addition of Marquis Teague and Kirk Hinrich, the Bulls are making room and trying to stay under the luxury cap. By trading Korver, they’ll save $500k. Also, there are rumors that the Bulls will match Omer Asik’s $25.1 million Houston Rockets offer. Pretty soon everything will unfold and fans will be looking at a new (and hopefully improved?) Bulls bench.
