Is it just me or did it seem like that took a long time?
We’ve known for over a week that Steve Nash was going to join the Lakers, but now it’s official. In a press conference today, he was announced by wizard general manager Mitch Kupchak.
Of wearing the purple and gold, Nash said:
“Being here right now is something I never foresaw. That (jersey) was a major hurdle for me just to get over visually as a player. It’s a franchise that I think everybody would dream of playing for. It’s an exciting project, to say the least. … I definitely never thought I’d play 19 years in the league, and I feel very fortunate that I have my health and, most importantly, have the desire to do it. I still enjoy pushing myself to get better and produce. I don’t foresee that changing, and that’s the key ingredient.”
He’ll be wearing the number 10 since his usual 13 was taken by Wilt Chamberlain years ago.
Nash also looked pretty fresh in his navy pinstripe suit with a bright red pocket square. It looks like some of LA’s tailors have gotten to him already!
Los Angeles is certainly happy to have him here, as the first really good guard the Lakers have had in years.
