A city in Northeast Arkansas loves their St. Louis Cardinals.
Want to know how I know?
The city of Jonesboro was so happy to have the Cardinals Caravan come to the Mall at Turtle Creek, they gave the group a key to the city and proclaimed Monday as St. Louis Cardinals Day. An estimated 1,300 packed the food court area of the mall where hordes of kids got autographs from some of their favorite former, current and future Cardinals.
Rick Horton, Fox Sports Midwest broadcaster and former Cardinal pitcher, was emcee for the event. Here’s what he had to say to pump up the crowd Monday.
We have reasons to celebrate and reasons to look forward to the 2012 season. In case you didn’t know, the Cardinals won the World Series in 2011. … David Freese is kind of becoming a folk hero in the Midwest. He deserves to be. It was an outstanding run for the St. Louis Cardinals in 2011. Game 6 was an awesome experience. It was the best game I have ever seen at the Major League level with what the Cardinals were able to do. It was a team effort.
Spring Training is not that far away. The Cardinals have Carlos Beltran. He will be a great addition to the team. Adam Wainwright is coming back. Adam is throwing in Florida. He will be ready to go and maybe he will finally get that Cy Young Award we want him to have so badly. He will be great to have back.
We also have a new manager, Mike Matheny. I can tell you that he is a tremendous leader. He is a guy you will get to know more and love. He is an outstanding leader of men.
