Run! Mitchell! Run!

It was tied up at two going into the ninth inning.

Michael Bourn was at bat with Carlos Corporan on. Bourn hits a little bloop to Albert Pujols.

You would expect a routine play that would entail pitcher Mitchell Boggs sprinting over to first base and tagging out the runner.

Mitchell Boggs

But, for whatever reason … Boggs did not run. He didn’t really even jog … he did what I call a doopty-doo over to the first base bag, which allowed the runner to be safe.

And besides not being able to score more runs themselves, this was where the game was lost for the Birds on the Bat.

Jose Altuve was next up for the Astros. He hit a grounder to Jon Jay in center field. Corporan scored. Bourn scored. Altuve moved to second on a throwing error by Jay in a strange play.

The play sealed the 4-2 victory for the Astros.

This doesn’t bode well for Boggs. Or does it? Check this tweet from Joe Strauss from the Post-Dispatch. This tweet was issued post-Rasmus trade.

Yes, it was terribly frustrating to witness. OK … it was awful!

Here is the Post-Dispatch game story.
