Punto To The DL Again, Tyler Greene Returns

With three Cardinals leaving the game due to injury last night, it’s not a surprise that a roster move is being made today.

Nick Punto heads to the disabled list for the third time this season, after straining an oblique muscle last night. Taking his roster spot is Tyler Greene, as Rick Hummel reports for the Post-Dispatch:

Infielder Tyler Greene, who has been hitting above .300 at Class AAA Memphis, has been recalled to replace Punto on the roster and Greene is here for tonight’s game at Busch Stadium with the Chicago Cubs.

The Cardinals’ medical staff is reporting that catcher Tony Cruz, who suffered a bruised right hand on Thursday, is not hurt seriously, and, apparently neither is catcher Gerald Laird, who sustained a ring finger strain on his catching hand.  Laird and Cruz will not be disabled.

Good news about Laird and Cruz.

And, really, could there be a better belated birthday present for Miranda than Tyler Perry Greene coming back to big leagues? It’s not like David Freese came through on the homer she requested.

The Cards host the Cubs tonight at 7:15 p.m., with Edwin Jackson making his Redbird debut.
