Oswalt Watch

The reunion of the 2004 Astros … well, it still hasn’t happened!

Yet?

Yes, things are still up in the air with where Roy Oswalt will land and play this 2012 season.

Rumors started swirling Friday night that a deal with the Cardinals was imminent. But, it’s early Sunday afternoon and there is still nothing new on the Oswalt front.

Matthew Leach from MLB.com has this update with all the latest on Oswalt. He reports that the Rangers, Red Sox, Tigers and even his old team, the Houston Astros, are still in the mix for his services. GM John Mozeliak denies that a deal is coming but didn’t elaborate with Leach — which is standard on how Mo rolls.

Oswalt would rejoin his teammates from the 2004 season – Lance Berkman and Carlos Beltran. But he would also join a team that already has a starting five with Adam Wainwright, Chris Carpenter, Jaime Garcia, Kyle Lohse and Jake Westbrook.

Westbrook could easily get moved to the bullpen and be effective but I’ve seen plenty of talk about trades … which doesn’t really make sense since he and K-Lo have no trade clauses in their contracts.

Leach notes going into spring training  with six starters could be interesting. Um. That’s an understatement. For those of us who enjoy seeing players having to work for their spot, this was already going to be an interesting spring training. If Oswalt is added and no trades are made, it just makes things all the more interesting! Joe Strauss of the Post-Dispatch is reporting the Cardinals could actually move reliever Kyle McClellan and this would offer some flexibility to add a veteran arm … such as Oswalt.

Here are some more stories to take a look at in regard to this possible move from SportingNews.com and here’s a little something from our buddy Strauss at the Post-Dispatch.

Please feel free to let us know what you think about the possibility of Oswalt joining the Cards and where they could lead our team! Comment below!
