McClellan Reels As Cards Lose 7-3

It wasn’t the way you want a holiday game to go for the St. Louis Cardinals, especially a holiday home game at Busch. The Cardinals got bombed 7-3 by the San Francisco Giants.

St. Louis Cardinal fans endured a 7-3 loss to the San Francisco Giants Monday. It wasn't pretty, by the way!

Kyle McClellan may be suffering from a long road trip away from his wife and newborn, or he may be coming off a Rocky Mountain High. Whatever it was, Kyle McClellan wasn’t the previously 6-1 pitcher to whom fans have become accustomed.

It started in the second inning with a Cody Ross home run to left center. In the third, Miguel Tejeda singled to Colby Rasmus, allowing Madison Bumgarner to score making it 2-0.

In the bottom of the third, Allen Craig doubled for the Cardinals allowing Ryan Theriot to score, making it 2-1.

By the way, Theriot got on base for Craig by doubling. Also by the way, that double increased his hitting streak to 13 games.

Later in the bottom of the third, Albert that bum Pujols singled to right field, allowing Craig to score. Pujols got to second on the attempt to get Craig out.

Just when the Cardinals thought they may get back into the game, things got bad in the top of the fourth.

Brandon Crawford singled to right field allowing Cody Ross to score. Aaron Rowand moved over to third. Next, the bases loaded up as McClellan walked THE PITCHER, that’s right, THE PITCHER Madison Bumgarner.

Andres Torres stepped up to the plate and cranked a grand slam. Aaron Rowand, Brandon Crawford, and THE PITCHER Bumgarner … Bumgarner? scored on the slam.

The Cardinals scored once more … Yeah, big whoop. Albert that bum Pujols smashed a homer to left center. It was a beauty, by the way. What the heck! Today is May 31 and Albert that bum Pujols only has NINE home runs. I hope he works this issue out soon. Nine homers on May 31 … I mean, it’s almost June and he isn’t in the double digits in home runs yet!

Thankfully, the Cardinals bullpen really stepped up and stopped the bleeding. Miguel Batista pitched an anxiety-filled two innings, which Chris discusses in the way of a poem below. Brian Tallet and his mullet pitched a pretty good inning of work. Jason Motte and that crazy beard pitched an inning and a third. And Trever Miller pitched the final two-thirds. The bullpen didn’t allow a single run and had four strike outs among them.

Before I present A Poem for the Poet by Chris, let me share with you the tweetings of Fake Miguel Batista.

Do not go gentle into that good night. I have many outs to get before I sleep. Fear not thy gentle bird in flight. #stlcards

And here is the poem from Chris, enjoy!

Poem for The Poet – May 30
O Poet! Our Poet!
Angst still greets your every mound trip.
Two quick outs you do get – o such joy!
Then two walks builds drama at a rapid clip.

O Poet! Our Poet!
Your pace slows to a crawl.
Bases now loaded, perhaps for maximum spectacle?
Full count, but then the K – you really did give it your all.

O Poet! Our Poet!
After the previous crisis, your second inning is one-two-three.
The day’s total is three walks, two strikeouts, no hits, no runs.
Yet so many are still anxious to see the Cards set you free.

    Ryan Theriot: 13-game hitting streak.

Let me say that again. Ryan Theriot: 13-game hitting streak.

I enjoyed telling my Cub fan family members about that yesterday.

Fake Miguel Batista might be my new favorite Twitter, since the Fake Chris Carpenter Twitter does not yet (apparently) exist.

Here’s hoping real-life Chris Carpenter can win a game, and pitch well, tonight.

A 13-game hitting streak for Theriot?

What is this I don’t even

Anyway, didn’t look like the Cardinals were wearing trucker hats yesterday? All those hats needed was a mesh back and an adjustable strap.

About McClellan: Remember, he’s the alternative to the level of Suppan or Hawksworth of last season. Sometimes, we’re not going to feel the sting of losing Wainwright for the whole season, and sometimes we will. Yesterday was one of those latter times.

Those hats actually reminded me of the ones my brother wore in Milan Little League all those years ago.

As for Ryan Theriot, yes! RYAN THERIOT HAS A 13-GAME HITTING STREAK. I forgot I am part of the fan club, so I need to shout it.

(And, of course, his streak will end at 13 games tonight with all this talk of it. Provided I’m still a jinx that way.)

Yes Yes, we are A PART of that fan club. I think we need to let Kelly know that after all those by-laws she made up … er… informed us of, that she is president!

No jinxies … I want this streak to go a while. It will make Brendan Fan Club members stop.

TOTALLY! Those hats did need a mesh back and they all needed aviator sunglasses.

And YES!! A 13-GAME HITTING STREAK!

That was sad for McClellan. I just hope I don’t have to come up with a nickname for McClellan like I did Hawksworth last season. He will forever be known as Poopsworth.

Just saw a tweet that McClellan has inflammation in his hip. So that could account for how he pitched yesterday. No nicknames may be needed yet.

And I had inflammation in my hip last summer/fall, so I know what it’s like. Ouch. He probably gets better treatment than I did too!
